About replacement filters in refrigerator

I have GE GSS25QGDM refrigerator and filter model is GWF. First when I bought my refrigerator I noticed that my filters running out very fast, about 3-4 months for one cartridge. This way I replaced 3 filters and I saved the old ones. Last summer I rechecked these filters again, two of them had very poor performance but 3d one was good and i installed it again. Strange thing that I am still using this filter and I can't complain about water current. I think I was using it about 3 months first time and I am using it now about 6 months. My 1st question is Why it didn't work before and it works now? 2nd-what can i do with my used filters, can i recycle them from GE or somewhere else?

Grand, on this model the filter is designed to be used for up to 8 hours of open valve time or one year of calendar time. In other words if it takes you 8 seconds to fill a glass, that would be 8 seconds of open valve time. When 90% of the filter time elapses, either open valve time or calendar time, (which ever comes first) the main control board will indicate the amber light. When 100% elapses, the light will go red. As far as recycling..you would have to give GE a call..Catriver..post back

Ice won't come out

if it's making ice, but the ice won't come out, it is likely going to be the dispenser motor (found behind the ice bucket).

the other possibility is the lever where you put the cup could not be hitting the switch, but most likely it is the dispenser motor.

I replaced my GE profile MWF water filter (identical GE part) and now I dont have water dispensing and don't have a working ice maker

Quite frequently carbon fines can be flushed from filter and plug the filter. If you have the bypass plug to replace the filter. Put that in and flush system completely. Take the filter and flush it at the kitchen sink. It is best to fill these with water before installing and flush the carbon fines before installing in fridge.

After installing a new mwf filter no water comes out of the dispenser. It worked before changing the filter. With the filter bypass plug installed - still no water. I held the dispenser for more than 3...

the inlet valve has jammed shut & needs to be replaced it's just coincedence that it happened when you changed the filter unless the taps turned off it has to be a faulty inlet valve.

Replaced my GE double wide refrigerator SMARTWATER FILTER #GWF With a which is supposed to be better. Yet, the water stream has cut down to half. Do I need the adapter collar for this newer model? ...

I have exactly the same problem. Replaced my GWF filter with the "new improved" MWF filter and the same thing happened. Tried replacing the filter not once, but twice - same low water flow. If you install the bypass plug the water flow is normal, so don't bother checking for water restrictions, bad hoses, tanks etc.. My refridgerator is a GE Profile 26 cubic foot purchased in 2004. I'm afraid these MWF filters don't work well in older models.

Ice from ice maker smells and taste bad

We have a similar fridge: part of the issue could be with the filter, GE has a 6 month filter and a 1 year filter. Might be time to change it (I believe the MWF filter is one year, the GWF is 6 months). Changing the filter helped in our case.

But overall, if you leave lots of leftovers in the fridge, the ice will pick up the smell. A couple of boxes of baking soda should help absorb the smell before it settles itself in the ice.

Water Filter

If you have a GSH25JFRx.. (x = E,F,G,H,I, or J) it will use a MWF (formerly GWF) water filter. It is a can shaped filter located at the top right back of the fresh food section. Give is a quarter turn CCW to remove. (the water auto shuts off when you remove the filter)

GE Profile water filter housing leaks

Hi there is a grommet you can replace.
#WR02X10678 it is about $7.00 It can help seal the plug sometimes. Ge does want you to buy the whole filter assembly it is number
#WR17X11618 $51.50 . You may also consider putting a new filter in. It seals better than the plug it is number
#gwf $42.95. I dont know why they dont sell a o-ring kit. I guess they just dont make much money on o-rings. I hope this will help you. Have a nice day.

Monogram water flow problem

common low flow is a kinked line or a bad water valve, the solioid valve has a filter that may be dirty. then go from there
