Question about Panasonic PT-47WX53 47" Rear Projection HDTV
Hi all, I have a Panasonic 47WX53 47" (4 years old) that all of the sudden developed a shift in the Red projection to the left and a slight curve to the left at the bottom. Tried to use the convergence menu to correct, but doesn't shift far enough to correct. I called the local service shop and they gave an estimate of between $300 and $500 to fix. I have messed with electronics for years and for that kind of $$, I will try to fix it myself. I've read a couple of other posts with a simular problem that have suggested to replace the "Convergence Box". I've looked inside the unit, but don't see a "Box". I do, however, see the two convergence IC chips. Is this what they are refering too? I looked the part# up on MCM Electronics and it costs about $20. Might be an adventure to change if thats the problem. If anyone has a solution to this problem, or has had the same problem, please post a reply.
Yes you do need to change the convergence IC's. But you really should buy the replacement IC's that the manufacturers recomend as these IC's at MCM are cheap replacements and sometimes they simply do not hold up to the factory specs. Go to http://www.partstore.com, enter your model number and you should be able to find the proper IC's there. If you notice the price is a bit higher, thats because they are the right parts!. Next go to MCM electronics and get a tube of heat sink compound and apply a generous layer on the back of the new IC's before you install the new IC's. Also you should check around for overheated or cooked resistors around the area of the convergence IC's. Now when all is sais and done, you will be better off to go ahead and get the service manual so you can do some convergence alighnments. The manual is good to have as it tells you how to get into the service menu and what to adjust and for what. One word of warning though, in the service menu, DO NOT make any adjustments you do not know anything about AND before making any adjustments in the service menu, write down the values so in case something messes up you have a place to go back to. Good Luck.

The service manual is avail online for a download athttp://www.servicemanuals.net/results.as... Dont forget the rating! Thanks
It depends on the quality of the IC's you put in and if you made any adjustments after the IC's went bad, and yes the settings are stored in the eeprom.
Do not get just one IC, replace both of them at the same time!
They are suppose to get hot but I have also intalled a muffun fan inside my TV set and havent had a problem in 4 years knock on wood. I took the poer relay found the part number and hooked up the relay on a switched 15 volt line and when the tV gets turned on the relay goes on to switch on the fans

Thank you techman for your respose.
Where is a good place to get the service manual for this set? Directly from Panasonic? Or is there a place online I can order one?
Partstore is out of STK393-110. :( Might just roll the dice with the MCM part or try to get one from Panasonic directly. Thanks for the link to the manual!!
Quick question. After I replace the convergence IC's, will I need to do ALL of the alignments like focus, pincushion, trapizoid, ect., or are these stored in the EEPROM?
Thank you yet agian!
IC's are removed and it appears that only 50% of the surface of the IC's were covered in heat sink compound. Think this is why they went bad?
UPDATE
I have installed the 2 new convergence IC's and all is working great!! After on for an hour, the heats sinks are quite warm. Maybe too warm. Considering rigging two 40mm fans to mount to heatsinks for better cooling. Would this be a mistake, or should I just let it be?
