Magellan 700 "freezing"

After a year of trouble free service and reliability my Magellan has some issues. Upon start up it freezes. It wont go passed the "warning"(with "user 1, user 2 and user 3")page. I have tried numerous times to reset it by powering it off and then on. Unfortunatly i no longer have the software or owners manual. I use this thing (or did) ever day for work within all my work trucks.I would appreciate any advice that you aor anyone may have to offer. okyboky

Okyboky, Once you turn on your unit, the Magellan splash screen or animation is produced from the flash memory. To my experience anything past that is dependent on the hard drive. So, your unit is freezing up as soon as the user menu is displayed without any response to pressing keys or touch screen right? Have you tried (at the user menu) pressing "-" key and the repeat button (on top of unit) to enter the "secret" menu? if you can do that, then select reset user data. That seems to fix numerous problems. If you absolutely can't get past that screen, or get any type of sign of intelligence from it then your hard drive is either corrupt/damaged or you could just have a cable not secured. If the above doesn't work, and you don't plan on sending it in for repairs, then open it up and make sure the cable from the Hard drive to the main board (large board) are fastened. Of course, being grounded would be helpful in this situation and also be careful when you first open up the unit as the RF cable needs to be unplugged before seperating the two sides (front/back). Good luck and let me know how it turns out. -Daniel

GPS turns on and goes to warning screen and freezes.

You can send your unit in to Magellangps.com or autonav2000.com to recover your MRM 700 unit.
This is a software issue that will require the unit to be reloaded.
Good luck

Magellan RoadMate700

I think Magellan makes it so if you don't update your map every year it will freeze up. Mine does the same thing and they told me to buy an update for $99 last year so I did and it worked and then after it started telling me my map was over a year old this year it started freezing up again. I don't want to pay $99 every year to keep this thing working. I wonder if Garman or Tomtom does the same thing.

My 700 gets stuck with the last map

Same problems, you have to update as far as I know and you have to update every year otherwise it will start to freeze up. It's a rip off because it's $99 a year. Does anyone know if the other GPS companies do this?

Magellan 700 GPS wont find sattlites

I just got off the phone with India (Tech Service). I sent my Roadmate 700 for service in October. When it did not come back, I called 4x and had to prove I sent it in with a copy of the tracking number from UPS. It has taken 2 mos to resolve, but they are sending me a Maestro 4250, free shipping for $300.00. Their first offer was for a free 3100. I was told the Roadmate 700 series is discontinued.

Magellan roadmate 700 gps not working

Jossie, The cable that connects your hard drive to your main board could be loose. If it's not loose, then it's your hard drive. The only thing you can do (if it's not the cable) is send it in for a new hard drive. Unsure what the costs will be but the magellan logo screen is produced from memory on the main board while anything after that is when the hard drive takes over. -Daniel

Magellan Roadmate 700 freezes up

Try resetting user data. At user menu, press "-" zoom out and repeat button at same time. select reset user data, it will reboot automatically, then check to see if it is any better. If not, hopefully the software came with your unit and you can re-install it. Good luck and let me know if you need help with the installation. Daniel
