Question about RCA HD61LPW42 61" Rear Projection HDTV
About 3 weeks ago our HD61LPW42 began shutting itself off after the picture started flickering and losing primary colors. The TV had to be on for about 4-5 hours before the problem would occur; but it was 100% reproducible if the TV was left on long enough. RCA was called. A local tech came out and was puzzled at what would cause this. RCA techs recommended to local service that the main color board component be replaced. Two weeks later the part arrived, and it was installed. The problem now occurs after 15-20 minutes after the TV has been turned on. The TV is now completely useless to our family. RCA techs are at a loss for what might be causing this. They now want to take the TV back to the shop to work on it there. ETA: 3-4 weeks! I simply can't believe RCA hasn't seen something like this before. Unfortunately, so far, nobody seems to know what to replace next to fix it. Although these TVs are highly technical, they are componentized. Why is it such a mystery to replace components one by one to isolate the problem? If a picture can speak a thousand words... I've got video footage of the problem up on a web site. I won't post the URL here as I'm not sure if that is allowed, but it is available upon request.
The unit has a bad color wheel.rca has seen this problem before. The color wheel has a bad bearing which over time can seize causing the single color you see.Keep on them they know it is defective
