I have the same problem, but when I tried to record sound, I played it back on Windows Media Player && could BARELY hear it when I turned my speakers almost ALL THE WAY up. But, I do know that my cam has a mic, even though Logitech doesn't tell yu that.

On the right hand side of your task bar near the time, you will see a speaker icon, right click on it and open volume control. When the window pops up on the far right should be the mic controls, check that it's not muted. If the mic controls do not show then click options at top menu then advanced and the mic slider controls will now show up.

I recommend beating it against something hard. Seriously, something is loose in these mics. Mine broke and under Skype audio settings I noticed when I tapped it hard it showed signs of recording. After a few good taps (mostly picking up and setting back on the monitor) it came back to life! Good luck ;)

If the little note coms up while recording saying frontmic in use (and its not) there is a simple solution! real the sounds options at the bottom of the screen in bar thing there is a pic of a ORANGE microphone. click it and a screen will come up. once your there there and two slide bars and they could have been muted. i un-muted them and the webcam microphone worked again. Hope this helps :) xx

QuickCam mic doesn't work

I read another post that said to go to Logitech itself for up-dates. This I did......downloaded all new drivers, etc. (the disc that comes with the cam must be out of date !). Then when that was done, I went back on Skype and where you do a 'voice test' I was able to this time around to "choose" my webcam - this was not coming up before at all. So in doing that it activated the mic on the webcam and all was OK. We seniors are supposed to be savvy with the forever changing world of electronic devices today! (LOL)

Logitech quick cam messenger

Hey guys,

Every review/spec I have read on this cam so far indicates that there is no built in microphone on the Quickcam Express. Here is one of those sites...

If you still have your box that the camera came in, it should tell you for certain if there is a microphone in the product description on the back or side of the box.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you, and good luck.

Logitech quick cam communicate stx on Vista - microphone not working

Why isn't the microphone on my camera working?
trnsp.gif Answer The microphone may not work because of a hardware or configuration problem. To determine if it's a hardware problem, test the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
The microphone may also be defective. To test this, try the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.
