SOURCE: computer does not recognize mY SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200. 11 500 GB

Try using your SEAGATE Hard Disk on another PC , if it works then you have one of these problems,
1. Your USB Port in your PC (Or Laptop) is broken and you have to get another one*
2. You have a software problem (Try reinstalling your OS or scan for viruses).
3. The USB Cable has a problem (get a new one).

(*) some technician can replace your USB port or fix it, or you can buy a "USB Hub"

Dear FixYa team,

Thx for your kind offering to me. I already call my friend to help me here. And he seems already found the solution. The problem was comes from USB cable malfuction, and I think it somehow affect the firmware detection. Gladly he can back up it again with another harddisk, just try to baiting it to make the firmware read. Now I'm still waiting for data recovery only. I'm so sorry that I can't use ur helps now, coz I needed it in hurry. Thx

SOURCE: how to make Seagate ST3200822AS 200 GB Hard Drive

This is a SATA drive. SATA drives do not have a master/slave setting.
This is simpler than you think!
Install your SATA drive and reboot into the BIOS setup
Go to the Boot drive sequence window
Make any other drive the boot drive
At this point, you can select the SATA drive as the next boot drive, or set the sequence to "No other boot drives"

Re-bhoot .... SATA drive is now the D drive unless you change the drive letter in the disk manager

*done*

SOURCE: Seagate ST3500630AS SATA 500 GB hard Drive

You will have to send it to a data recovery company in order to retrive the data sounds like the circuit board failed therefore the drive is not receiving power.Usually if this board is good you would hear the drive spin up.
Good luck

My seagate 7200.7 120GB hard drive isn't recognised by my computer and isn't recognised when I connect it to a USB to SATA cable

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

My seagate barracuda 7200.9 120GB hard disk hardware board emitted a smoke when i switched on my PC.I found out a small piece of part of the board (black color) showed signs of burnt.I could hardly read...

Just pointing that out.

From my own small piece of advice, I would replace the circuit board with one from another Seagate 7200.9 Barracuda Plus 120GB harddrive. Buy a good used one.

This way you can install the circuit board on the one you want to retrieve data from, then reinstall it back on the one you bought, after you have retrieved your data, and have a working Harddrive.

Buying just that circuit board? Mmmm, no.

Just from a quick search,

http://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/pid_lookup.asp?pid=52592

http://www.allhdd.com/index.php?target=products&mode=search&subcats=Y&type=extended&avail=Y&pshort=Y&pfull=Y&pname=Y&pkeywords=Y&cid=0&q=ST3120026A&src=ggl

Information on Harddrives,

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htm

Do I know if the damage has gone further than just the circuit board? No, I do not.
Therefore it is a decision only you can make if it is worth the money spent.
There are also professional data recovery services. ($$$$$)

Look at the diagram on the drive, you will need a jumper

3.5" Dynex USB 2.0 External Enclosure + Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 500 GB HDD problem with computer recognizing the HDD and the enclosure

If your running XP , go to control panal , Admin tools>Computer Management >Storage > Disk Management . Look for it there . If its there see if it says what file system . If none format it . If it isnt there then chack the jumper on the hard drive it self . It should be set to master or cable select .
