Hello: I have a big problem with this device. On past tuesday I was playing with hdparm settings, I was working on debian etch O.S. Then I turned off Pc and I didn't notice nothing unusual. When I turned on pc again (an hours later) the harddisk didn't turn on and the bios didn't recognize it correctly. It's like the harddrive haven't power. I also checked the connectors and these are ok. I don't know what happened, but somebody said to me with a low-level formatting I could fix the problem. Is it true??? Here is the harddisk specifications: Manufacturer: Hitachi Type: Deskstar model: HDS722580VLAT20 Cap.: 80gb Thanks in advance Pd: Excuse me by my english but I`m from chile and I`m studying english. Thanks Thanks in advance
Then again you could try to re-set the bios to default factory settings and re-boot. pull cmos battery for about 1 minute re-install battery and re-boot. then discuss catastrophic failure.:-)
We call them in the industry Death Stars! I have had several just die on me! If the drive does not show in the BIOS then you can't do a low level format! All the ones that have died on me have burnt out components on there circuit boards. Way to small for me to solder! So they were thrown away!

Hello:
I've cleared BIOS (With the jumpers in the motherboard. But I didn't try with the battery) and this didn't work, but there's something strange. When the system starts and tries to recognize the drives, appears the serial number: V320A63A instead of HDS722580VLAT20.
Thanks in advance
