I have a HP DV4000 and it froze on me. when it starts it starts at the windowxp and then it goes to the Blue Screen and no where else the cursor works. What can I do?

i have the same proble when i turn it on it just stays frozen in the blue screen. i can move the mouse but other than that it stays frozen.

From the description it is the hard drive that is the problem, format the whole hardware and re-install your xp windows to see if that will clear up the problem, if not! have the hard drive tested to see if it must be replaced.

Is the screen frozen BEFORE or AFTER the screensaver activates? If it's after then try doing a scandisk and defrag of the hard drive to clear up errors. Also make sure to go into MY COMPUTER, right click the C: drive and in PROPERTIES runa clean up to delete the temp files that may be corrupted.
try to log in safe mode when the laptop is booting by pressing F8 key, you will see many option select boot in safe mode, if you can boot in safe mode then reboot normally. if the problem remains then you have to repair or reinstall your operating system.
I think the blue screen you are reffering to is the blue screen of death. This happens when a serious failure occurs. Your OS's system files may have got corrupted and that would be the reason for this. Try reinstalling Windows. If the problem persists, get your Ram memory checked by a technician.
