Sony Mavica MVC 400

I was finalizing a disc and it stopped and froze. I can still see the pictures on the disc while in the camera but I can't get the pictures to download onto my computer. if I put the disc into my computer it thinks that it is an empty disc.

It seems like the only solution is to find a "disc recovery" program to pull the pictures off the CD. I found and bought ($39.00) the program CDRoller. Although it is designed to recover problem files I found it sees the pictures and allows you to move them to your PC hard drive. Take the unfinalized CD, put it in you CD drive and run CDRoller. It finds the DCIM folder. You can open it to get the folder that contains the pictures. Open it and all of your picture file names are displayed. You can select all and do a save. It will ask you where you want to save them and define the folder on your PC. When the save is done your pictures are on the PC and your disc is still unfinalized so you can put it back into your camera and continue to take pictures.

I have had similar problem and i think it's a problem with the disc. Make sure the disk is clean and unscratched. Check your other discs, too, to see if they are giving you the same problem. If not, it' is most likely the disc and not the camera.

Sony CD Mavica MVC-CD400

I think you have to Finalize the disc before you put it into your computer. After you save all the pictures to your computer, if it's a CD-RW, you can format it -which will erase all pictures on the disc. Then you can use it over and over again. If you haven't already bought a bunch of cheep CD-R discs, I recommend getting a package of 3 or 4 CD-RW discs instead. They are more expensive but they last longer and you can be way more organized with them. I hope this helps.

Mavica CD400 Not enough disc space error

A few times over the last several years, having shot thousands of images with my CD-400, I discovered that VERY rarely a bump/jar, etc. can cause a bad write, or the same thing when finalizing. In the car with a friend one day, I was needing to finalize for him and got the message of death. That's the only thing I can offer; mine has worked like Sony intended.

Disc Error

Repair will probably run from $180. to over $250. You can try to gently clean the lens with a Q-tip and cleaner.
This is a common problem with the Mavicas....The 400 and 500 models seem to last longer, but in the end..Sony has created another camera that despite it's price is a 'throw away camera" (just like the one's that used floppies)

Mavica cd 500 camera

NO! Connect the USB cable and transfer your images. That way you can fill your disk before finalizing. BTW: Does not this camera have an "Unfinalize" option?

Disc Error

I had a similar problem, I was able to view the images on the camera but could not download them to my computer. I have an external cd drive, HP CD writer plus. This drive does not require me to finalize my CDs in order to download my pictures. With the damaged CD, I used a piece of software called BADCOPY to recovery the files(pictures) on the CD. I was able to recover all but one picture from the damaged CD. (I tried using the cd drive on my pc and the recovery software did not find anything, I had to use the external drive)
