My Epson R1800 keeps resetting itself

There's something going on and I can't figure it out. My Epson R1800 keeps resetting itself. I think . Here's what I'm seeing..... I could be sitting at my desk, then the R1800 go through a cycle all by itself. I would hear the "bleep" from my PC as if I unpugged the USB cable and reinserted it. It would then come back on. This also happens sometimes during a print, and the printer would eject the print halfway. I changed USB cables, I changed the USB port, I unistalled and reinstalled the Epson software..nothing changed. Any idea what's going on?

I have the same problem as Takayama with the Epson R1800. I finally figured out that it was a bad power switch. If I wedge a small screwdriver under the power switch to apply prissure to it then the printer will work just fine. I think having it fixed would be to costly unless I could take it apart myself.

I've had the exact same problem on my R1800, and 'wedging' something under the power switch (I'm my case, a piece of paper folded over several times) does the trick. Since doing so, my printer is working great. I agree that having the switch fixed would be more of a hassle than working with the 'wedge'. ;-)

    Hello,
We have purchased a UV printer with a moving flatbed that is based on the Epson R1800 printer internals. But when we are trying to print something out via the PC(XP) that is running with the RIP software we cannot get it to print and the print head goes one time to the left and then back when afterwards it reads Flat Position Error and two lights are blinking. We downloaded Epsons EPROM software and tested the printer to find that is has a Fatal Error 54 and in the description of the error reads: "LD roller initialization error"
What can we do and what parts should maybe be replaced?
    Sincerely Emil

You have done all the usuall checks, but you may have a usb power problem, try the printer without any other usb peripheral in and see if it stays connected. If not, then the usb connection or workings in the printer may be faulty and keeps disconecting, hence the bing bong as it re connects to windows. You may have faulty hardware, leave the printer disconnected from usb and mains for 15 mins or so then try again.
