My Epson R1800 keeps resetting itself

There's something going on and I can't figure it out. My Epson R1800 keeps resetting itself. I think . Here's what I'm seeing..... I could be sitting at my desk, then the R1800 go through a cycle all by itself. I would hear the "bleep" from my PC as if I unpugged the USB cable and reinserted it. It would then come back on. This also happens sometimes during a print, and the printer would eject the print halfway. I changed USB cables, I changed the USB port, I unistalled and reinstalled the Epson software..nothing changed. Any idea what's going on?

I have the same problem as Takayama with the Epson R1800. I finally figured out that it was a bad power switch. If I wedge a small screwdriver under the power switch to apply prissure to it then the printer will work just fine. I think having it fixed would be to costly unless I could take it apart myself.

I've had the exact same problem on my R1800, and 'wedging' something under the power switch (I'm my case, a piece of paper folded over several times) does the trick. Since doing so, my printer is working great. I agree that having the switch fixed would be more of a hassle than working with the 'wedge'. ;-)

We have purchased a UV printer with a moving flatbed that is based on the Epson R1800 printer internals. But when we are trying to print something out via the PC(XP) that is running with the RIP software we cannot get it to print and the print head goes one time to the left and then back when afterwards it reads Flat Position Error and two lights are blinking. We downloaded Epsons EPROM software and tested the printer to find that is has a Fatal Error 54 and in the description of the error reads: "LD roller initialization error"
What can we do and what parts should maybe be replaced?
    Sincerely Emil

You have done all the usuall checks, but you may have a usb power problem, try the printer without any other usb peripheral in and see if it stays connected. If not, then the usb connection or workings in the printer may be faulty and keeps disconecting, hence the bing bong as it re connects to windows. You may have faulty hardware, leave the printer disconnected from usb and mains for 15 mins or so then try again.

Hello, take a read of this link regarding the Ink Pad Reset utility from Epson, I see the R1800 is included.

Epson R1800: printing 13x19" velvet paper. hand feeding into rear of printer. keeps saying eror, or paper jam or ... then finally just spits the paper through and out.

why print velvet paper? the problem is the velvet would be too thick and it would jam the print heads because when they run over the paper it would pull the velvet and it would get jammed i don`t think you should print velvet

The message says parts inside the printer are nearing the end of their service life. What should I do?

This message means that the printer thinks the waste ink pads are full and so

The SSC service utility won't reset the R1800 counter.
The Epson service program is needed and can be downloaded from:

The R1800/2400 service manual can be downloaded from that site.
If you want to have a go at replacing the pads, then instructions are in
the manual.

Flash feed paper & ink light my epson r1800 printer

Do you mean that the paper light flashes at the same time as the ink light or do they flash alternately (ie: paper on, ink off -> paper off, ink on)?

If so the waste ink pads are full and you need to do the following:

1. Reset the waste ink counter:
Grab the tool linked from the site (see bottom).

2. Redirect your waste ink into an external tank OR replace your waste ink pads.. (external tank is easier).

Instructions for the R1800 are available from this site

If the lights are doing something different, please post again with detailed information about how they flash and I can what else it might mean.

Hope that helps.

I have an Epson R1800. Printing preference does stay on "Text"

hello there. access the printer settings from the epson software utility, and change the settings there. be sure to save your changes.

Paper and ink lights blinking - no power light flashing at all - can't do anything on our Epson R1800 printer... can you suggest something to try? have been doing a lot of head cleaning due to bad nozzle...

Try doing a printer check by doing the steps below. If it doesnt work, then try to call the printer manufacturer for more advanced solutions or information

  1. turn off the printer and disconnect it from computer
  2. place a plain sheet of paper
  3. press and hold down the paper feed button, then press and release the power button. Continue holding down the paper button until you see the power light flashes
  4. if it prints a test page it is working fine, the problem might be the computer settings, printer settings, software or printer application, or cables, otherwise the problem is the printer itself
