No picture 27" Akai LCD

I turned on my 27" Akai DVD Combo, it was working fine, left the room for a minute when I came back there is sound and just red and gold with a slight picture in the background. The same when I put in a DVD.

There is no picture. The indicator light flashes red when turned on.

If you can solder, you can fix this television. open the back there is one visible board with three bulging caps on it. the other board under the aluminum screen is usually fine leave it alone for now. On the board withe the bulging caps (three in a row 16v1000mf) you will need to remove the problematic caps. Use a desoldering iron or if you are very brave you can use a dremel (not advisable as you would have to remove the solder from the joint and then remove the caps with pliers). You can get 24v1000mf caps at radio shack for next to nothing jsut solder them in and rplace the board in the unit. viola if it doesn't work then you need to replace the MLT168a/b board you were jsut working on with a MLT169c from megmeet.com Replacing the caps did it for me though

You might have loss off signal true it on a different cable source ie in another room

When my 27 inch lcd with dvd is powered on, the screen pulsates fro 10 minutes then the flashing sound stops and all is fine

those akai flat panel tvs had several capacitors fail on the mainboard and the power supply board. you can see them vented on the top or bottom they will look like they are exploding.

My AKAI tv/dvd combo - DVD quit working.

Most times it's video read issue such as a dirty lens on the laser.If you smoke in the house or use a fireplace there is a lot of airborn stuff to leave a slight haze on the lens making reading the disk impossible.Try a standard cd or dvd lens cleaner.The on that looks like a cd and uses alcohol on one of the cleaning brushes on the disk you've got a 50 50 chance.

Picture but no sound

if you get sound from dvd then you know the audio output circut is good in tv try other video inputs for sound composite component

Akai problem

i got akai 29" tv before 1 1/2 yrs back.3days back it was burnt with a huge sound. the set was burnt with a high smoke.since 1 wk i am waiting for your service agent.when they will come?this problem was not present in sony,LG,or other tv.akai is this much weak set.there was no lightnening only rain was present at that time.i hope you will change the set with free of cost.
