Question about Tappan TGF657 Gas Kitchen Range
My new gas oven smells funky when in use, like a factory coating or something is burning off. We have had it for six months and it still smells. It is not a natural gas smell. We have to open window while using the oven. Please help, its driving me crazy.
I have the same issue. I live in an apartment, and I had maintenance come by to check it out. They say that it is carbon (white, ashy) built up around the burners from where the gas is burning. They clean it, but then it comes back. I'm wondering what else it can be because I feel like death every time we use the oven. And I know, I shouldn't use it! Well, I like to cook, and I'm stuck in this crappy place until the end of my lease. I don't know what to do either. If my maintenance actually figures out the problem, I'll let you know.

Tips for a great answer:
Hello purrpplee - If the smell is coming out of the oven vent, more than likely it is something inside the oven that is creating the odor. Also, keep in mind that new cooking products can create a burning electrical odor when the bake and broil cycles are used as any residual coating or film on the oven liner and elements burns off. However, if odor increases consult a professional for an accurate diagnosis.
