Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop
Hi My main hard drive is a Western Digital WD800JD the second drive i have installed is a Western Digital WD2500JS both are Sata,i was told these are compatible. The problem is as follows it is reconised in the bios setup and in Device manager it states this device is working but when i right click on my computer and select open the only hard drive shown is C drive, the second drive is not shown. Help! Cheers R.T.Holmes
Right click on my computer>manage, then a window will pop up, look
down the list on left for disk management. In here you have to activate
the drive (i think you right click the square where the red X is). Then make it a primary partition. At this point it should show up in 'My Computer'. Then you need to format before use.
If its a new drive do a full format not a partial or quick, to check for bad sectors. If find any. take the drive back to the shop.

Yes, I agree with Sandrew. When you boot up the computer you should right click My Computer and then select manage. In the next window, go to disk management. For some computers, a disk initialization wizard will pop up asking to initialize it and then format it. Or you might see a drive with a red x or it might show as unallocated. Either way, it should be formatted. After the format, you will be able to use it in my computer.

Windows may need recognise it through it's system, right click on my computer>manage, then a window will pop up. Look down the list on left for disk management; on the right bottom of window, you should see your drive there but it will need to be formatted. Highlight your disk, right click and select format. The drive should then show in my computer

make sure that the leads are in there correct slots
One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
hope this helps
