Power problem I have bought this unit three weeks ago. Today I was using it all morning fine. In the evening, when I was going out, my GPS would not turn on as I turn the car on. It was plugged in fine, no problems there. Tried to reset the unit. Nothing seems to work, it just wont turn on. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for your help!
It turned out, that you had to charge the unit for 10 hours on the computer before using it for the first time. I did not know this, and was using my GPS out of the box. For some reason, the car adaptor is not charging the battery, so the GPS is running on the internal battery, which lasts for 8 hours. The customer service said, that every once in a while you have to recharge the battery on the computer again. Well, anyway, after we charged the battery on the computer, the unit works fine.

Thank you very much for your help anyway:-)

I had the same problem. with my garmin. Why don't they tell us in the brochure to charge on the computer for 10 hours before use? I had no power at all, however it worked when I received it. When hooking it to the computer, how do you know if it is charging or not? There are no indicator lights, and nothing pops up on my computer screen

GPS works for a while from car charger, eventually though it dies. Will not take a charge. All of the DC outlets in my car turn off when the car is not running, so cannot charge the unit!!!

I am having the same issue...the battery went dead, it will not turn on and will not charge. Does it charge from the MP3 slot? Or the battery in the lighter slot? Should I leave it turned off while driving and charging

My Garmin worked just fine when one night and then a couple of hours later after i left it in my car (turned off), it would not turn off. I plugged it into the computer, but still, no success. Turning button on and off does not help at all. It's as if it's dead. :-(

If you have the unit plugged into a cigar lighter adaptor socket, then first check if the socket is working using another device. Then unscrew the und of the plug and the small silver tip in the centre will come out. This holds a fuse which may have blown. replace it even if you think it looks ok unless you know how to test it.(My bet is that this is the problem)- check at the end of this solution for a link that explains how to change the fuse. If the unit was hard-wired to the car power, then somewhere between the car battery and the unit should have been a fuse, possibly although unlikely more than one. Check this, it would normally be close to the unit, but it may be under the hood somewhere, possibly an in-line fuse holder (usually looks a bit like a short fat fountain pen, with a way to twist the two halves to release) - if the wiring is new compared to the car, hopefully it will be easy enough to follow. It is also possible that there were spare fuse slots in your car fuse panel, and one of these may have been comandeered for your gps, check they are all ok - usually you can see this visually. There is a small possibility that the battery/charging system of the car is not in perfect working order. There may be enough voltage for the car to start and run normally, but an item like a gps can be much more sensitive to slightly low voltages. If you can use a multimeter then this should be easy enough to check yourself (ask again if you need help with this), otherwise any auto-shop should be able to check it very quickly (2 minute job) and check the voltage available at the GPS. If the unit became excessively warm from sunlight etc. then there is the possibility that the internal battery has failed - contact garmin and they will advise you how to get a replacement - probably you have to send the unit to them. If none of this helps or sheds any light on the problem, this link has the manual etc. for your gps if you need it; http://www.garmin.com/support/userManual.jsp?market=4&subcategory=41&product=010-00522-00 also there are contact details for garmin - the warranty is still valid so long as the unit was installed properly, and garmin are usually very helpful. Page 31 of the user manual shows how to change the power fuse if you are having trouble. Hope this helps:)

The unit will not turn on, even when plugged into a power source. Unit was working fine a week ago. Garmin Streetpilot C330.

Have you checked the fuses in the power cable? There is a reset button under the front bezel. Try pressing that to see if your unit comes back to life too.

Bought it a week ago today. now it mysteriiously

It sounds like it may have an bad solder connection in the power supply. Or It may have bad componets in the power supply. I would even try to take the battery's out of the remote just in case it is cause it to turn on/off.

My Garmin Nuvi 265W will not turn on. A couple of weeks ago when I booted it up, it had reset back to like new. Asking me to do set up and such. It's been cool since then. Today I shut it off at 5pm and...

I can help you reset and fix your Garmin Nuvi 265W.

Getting stuck on the flashing Garmin logo, or a message about not finding any maps, are indications that the firmware / system software inside your GPS has been corrupted.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265W running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Tomtom ONE will not turn on

it may wel get power light on but if the battery has collapsed then it will take forever to accrue a minor amount of charge. USE the AC adaptor to charge it and see if whilst it is connected ( after hour) that you can turn it on and get a display.
You could also get a new battery for it if it does respond. failure could indicate that battery acid has leaked and done damage, even Lion batteries break down

Dual NavAtlas XNAV3500P

I had the same problem, check the fuse, also if the fuse is blown check the piece that fits into the device, you may have lost the little part that stops the fuse from blowing, it looks like a small ring on the end, stops it from shorting.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a NavAtlas 3550 cigarette lighter charger? I have tried 2 Universal adapters and none work! HELP!!

Won't turn on

One of the wires in your power cord could be broken. If you have the a/c adapter, see if you can power up with that. If you know someone else with a working Magellan, you could borrow his cord to test your unit.

If not, check the car adapter with a continuity tester. Put one tester probe on one of the side springs of the car plug and the other probe on the outside metal of the GPS plug. If that shows continuity, place one tester probe on the end tip of the car plug and the other inside the the GPS plug.

If either of those do not show continuity, first take apart the auto side of the cord. Check the fuse and the wire to contact solder joints. If they seem okay, carefully cut back the molded plastic from the GPS end and examine the wire to solder joints. If any are broken, replace the cord or resolder the joints.
