Re: no remote control
Nope sorry you will need to get a remote for this unit. i found you one from an original remote replacement place. it is just like the remote you do not have. Go to
http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&uid=11741955727330&smodel=AVD58&brand_pn=AIWA_AVD58 To order a replacement remote. Sorry this is all that can be done in your case. Good Luck

When turning it on hold the enter key at the same time to reset the machine back to the factory settings...worked for me when I had that exact problem.
Can we simplify this a bit. It sounds like you're making more of the task than it requires.
When you say "can't hook up my previous subwoofer", do you mean physically impossible or that you can't get it to work after it's attached? This receiver requires a self-powered subwoofer.
Do you have the manual? The receiver is its own tester. I have no idea what kind of tester you're using.
Without knowing more about the subwoofer (powered, passive, what kind(s) of input it takes, I have to take a wild guess. Most powered subwoofers use the old standard RCA cable. I there are two jacks on the sub for Left and Right input you just get an adapter to make the cable plug into two jacks.
If I remember this model correctly, there is only 1 direct input. The remainder of the inputs are bufferred through a switching IC. It is likely that this IC is defective. Are there any other symptoms at all?
thank you for your promptly response, the answer was very helpful
