Thin Bright line is all I got on the tube

I already paid for service on this set, different problem. The picture went "thin on me, with black belts on top and bottom. Shortly after it went to a thin white line, side to side. I threatened it with my 9mm, but it just smelt hot... kill it or what?

Sounds like a capacitor and/or the Vertical amp Ic has gone out in the set. Maybe a bad solder joint. Depending on where you live, the cost of repair could be between $100.00 to $150.00. Kill it or what? What would Braveheart do. FFFRRRREEEEEEEDDDOOOMMMM

It sounds like you have a bad capacitor in the vertical circuit. The circuit needs to be checked out by a technician. Stargazer

Turn on pic turns red with thin bright red horizontal lines

Sorry to say, but that's usually the sign of a bad picture tube. One of the elements inside the tube shorts and you see the picture you describe, and the set shuts down due to high voltages getting to places it shouldn't. There's no solution except picture tube replacement, and that is uneconomical. You're better off replacing the TV when the tube goes bad.

Tube TV - one thin horizontal line of bright light

Vertical defection failure. Common failure. Pretty easy to repair ($50-75?). However, my general rule of thumb is not to waste any more money on TVs over 10 years old. Too much other stuff in there ready to fail as well.

Thin white horizontal line center of screen!

The set should have a vertical output IC,You need to change it ,maybe you can check the B+ going to it because it might have opened the safety resistor if the IC went bad.You can check for broken board too unless the set is never move from one place.Be carefull when checking voltages ,there is still high voltage, not much but can num your whole hand.

Picture went black

The good thing is you see something in the screen, with age the set has developed loose conections in a few different places,my suggesion is to call professional for service now and the repair will not as expensive,if the picture quality is good is worth it.
