Although I am not incredibly familiar with your model, There is most likely a small board mounted above the others near the crts, there is a small red connector with a blue wire if you unhook it it will remove power from the convergence IC's and if they are shorted it might come up with conv out, will need a new module.

SOURCE: Diagonal lines through the picture.

I've found the lines caused by the digital board before. Unfortunately it is expensive. I'd recommend running it on HD and it will bypass the faulty circuit. The lamp light flashes telling you the lamp is firing up. As the lamp ages, it will take longer and longer until it fails.

SOURCE: Samsung DLP HL-R4266W..no sound or picture. TV is completely dead

Assuming the noise is a high-pitched whine, then yes, it is the color wheel.  If the color wheel goes out, the TV will turn on for a while, then turn off when it can't establish color wheel sync.  The color wheel has to be in sync with the mirrors on the DLP, so if sync can't be established, the TV turns off.
You can order a new color wheel from Sears or partstore.com (among other places) and replace it yourself, if you are so inclined.

We have a e-motion tv we bought it from Aldi about 6 months ago, it's been absolutely fine up until now, earlier on today we switched it on and straight away the input menu kept scrolling down fast on

Check the buttons on the TV are any pressed in and stuck? Try wiggling them if they are. Also check the same on the remote.

If all checks out pull the power out for about a minute. Put it back in again and test.
