None of the keys or the touch pad on my Lenovo Y510 is responding. Everything else on the machine seems to work fine but I am unable to type anything or use the touch pad to move the pointer. This problem seemed to have developed after a hard reboot.

If you're positive you didn't unplug or rip anything while installing new USB ports, trying checking/updating or rolling back the drivers for the touch pad. Installing new USB ports could have mis-configured something and disabled or modified your drivers for the touch pad.
Try pressing the "Fn" and "esc" buttons on the keyboard both at the same time to turn the camera on or off. It may work or may not, but that is the way it is supposed to work. There have been a lot of problems with this web cam and yahoo messenger. The only other thing I can suggest is to contact Lenovo and see if they might have another driver that can resolve this.
most likely your touch pad is just damaged. you might have to send it in for repairs so back up all your important info and try to check the warranty and see if your cover. Call the place where you bought it and see what they can do. Best of wishes
