Question about GE JVM1640 Microwave Oven

2 Answers

Microwave rattle I have a GE Spacemaker Microwave (JVM1640WB007) over the range (new with the house 2002) - it has started a rattle sound when it is running. I have taken the front vent off as well as the inside filter but am unable to locate the specific problem. Can I continue to use the machine? Is it a problem I can repair? I'd rather not pay a service charge to say it needs to be replaced. I await your reply. Thank you. Tom Thatcher

On some models, the right side of the case is pretty close to the high-voltage transformer. What's normally done is a rubber block is glued to the side of the transformer to keep it from getting so close. In other cases it may be something loose in the fan, stirrer, etc. It really has to be checked to know for sure.

Ge spacemaker II microwave started humming and nothing showing on monitor

My parents have had a couple of the spacemaker microwaves mounted over the range with the built-in vent. Over time, the seal on the control board gets a crack in it and the steam from cooking below it gets up into the control board and does it in.
Even if yours isn't mounted over the range, it sounds like a main control board failure.

My microwave makes a rattle noise when turned on

check to make sure the plate is inline with the roller setting so it rolls around inside correctly when in use, other wise that will rattle.

Light bulb above stove under microwave hood

According to the GE manual it is a 120 v 20 watt halogen bulb, the GE product number is WB36X10213. That is the cooktop light/nightlight that would be on the stove hood. HTH!

This is a Microwave GE Spacemaker over the range model JVM1428BHC01 The RangeHood functionality seems to have a constant air flow. It started to make a noise like an electric motor that rattles,...

this sounds more like a loose winding in the main coil to me,,if its humming? the noise is becouse steel core is vibrating,,,if this is so then the coil wont last very long,,,and it cant be fixed! all you can do is fit a new coil,,,,and thats not worth the cost!! go for a new unit,,,

JVM1640WB007 MICROWAVE RUNS BUT DOESN'T HEAT. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

It is most common for the magnetron in GE microwaves to go out. This is the part that heats the food. Basically everything on the unit works and runs like normal but it wont heat. Check your owners manual for the warranty on the magnetron. They usually put a 5-7 year warranty on the part itself. If you dont have the owners manual check for it online. Hope this helps you.

I have a ge above range spacemaker xl1800 it seems to work fine except their is a rattling noise when its running it sounds like a bad fan or something comeing loose it seems like its comeing from under...

The noise you are hearing is due to the fan. The fan is used to cool the magnetron during cooking, and because this fan is not working the magnetron is overheating and the thermal protector is opening, killing power to the unit. All you need to fix this is a new fan blade. The fan blade(look for part #80) is slipping on the motor shaft ( the noise you are hearing).

GE XL 1800

If the blade is broken then you can buy a new one from---

GE FAN BLADE

Please ask for further clarifications.

A Fixya rating would be appreciated if you find it useful.

Thanks

Constant rattling noise during operation

possibly the "stirrer" motor - this is in the top and turns a metal reflecting ring to disperse the microwaves around the oven more evenly. About $70 on GE site for my oven.
