I have an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop, 2 months old. Laptop was opened and a 1 in. rubber bouncy ball was thrown against a wall and bounce back and hit the screen. Appears the LCD is cracked. Had lines going through the screen and a definite mark of colors where the ball hit. I have found a new screen on ebay. Question: Is it easy enough for me to change it out? and how?

The first two solutions I agree with. However, I mostly believe that the cable connection from the motherboard to the circuit board for the screen is loose or may need to be cleaned or replaced. It's a very delicate procedure removing the screen to fix this problem so its best you take it to a repair shop.

Sandrew is right. It should be a good thing to go to a service center to have your laptop examined. Inside the display area there is a small circuit board that is the display's controller. This is connected to the mainboard by a set of wires. Probably the connector to the display's controller got out of place and needs to be reconnected properly. This isn't an expensive repair and it's better to let the service centers have a look. It's the safest way. However if you need instructions on dissasembling your display I will provide them if you ask. Good luck.

There is not much you can really do to rectify a screen problem, but there are four little black blanks in the corners of the screen, remove and see if any tightening or loosening of the screws alter it. Caution applies as the wireless receiver is built in the screen and can get damaged and that may also be causing the interference.

My laptop, an Acer Aspire 5715z, has a big ol' white patch on it with a smaller one at the top of the white one. It covers about half of the screen, and it has blue around the start of the white line.

Oh okay. Your screen is physically cracked. Its broken, its going to need to be replaced. Thats why a part of the screen is coming and then you see splotches on the screen. Looks like somebody hit directly with something or stepped on it. If you turn the laptop off and shine a light on it, you might be able to see where the crack originated.

In the meantime until you get another lcd screen, you can hook up an external monitor to the laptop and use it like that for now.

My screen of my laptop acer aspire 5670 is smaller

3 possible solutions

1. There is a monitor mode to display correctly when connected to a larger monitor, look at the top line of keys on your keyboard for a key with 2 monitors on it. You usually need to press the FN (Function key, bottom left) hold it down then press the monitor at the top

2. Your display drivers are incorrect see http://www.howtofixanything.co.uk/howto-52.html to update your video driver

3. Try starting Internet Explorer and click Tools (At the top) --> Windows Update
See if any updated Video Drivers are available
If you cannot see tools at the top in the menu bar pres the <alt> key once

Both screens wont work

No mention of how much ram installed ???

Are you using ACER GRIDVISTA
This program handles the multi screen out put

or

Standard Screen Properties,,,,,,,

Try this

DESKTOP>Right click properties
DISPLAY PROPERTIES>Settings

With both screens connected.
There should be two windows displayed ,
a highlighted white one and a grey one

Click IDENTIFY.

ONE SCREEN-
Should display a number 1 on the screen it has attached.
TWO SCREEN
Should display a number 2 on the external screen.

Once you get IDENTIFY to work then set resolution sizes of both individual screen.Apply and ok to save settings

If using GRIDVISTA then set the setting for the output functions and save theme as a theme BOTH or LAPTOP AND EXTERNAL MONITOR and its accessible from the desktop right click.

Good luck I have a couple of these I use for my Media Centre wirelessly networked thru the house.Great machines.
