Proscan Tv is humming

My Proscan 32LB30Q LCD HDTV is less than a month old and about two days after I hooked it up it started buzzing. There is nothing connected to it like a game console, dvd player, etc. I have tried to switch the stereo to mono but nothing seems to be helping. If anybody has any idea what may be wrong with it or even an idea I would greatly appreciate it!!!!! Thanks!!!

I have the same problem, but it goes away when muted. Nice to look at but not watch?

    Same problem here.

  • Anonymous Jan 03, 2009

We just bought this tv a few hours ago and the only way to get rid of the buzzing is to mute it, just like someone else said. If we can't get rid of it there is no sense in keeping the tv. Great price but still want something that works for $400.00

We have same problem. TV starts humming after 5 minutes. Not worth it

  • Anonymous Jan 18, 2009

literally just bought it. Any input with a signal has the hum. Hum goes away if the tv is muted or if the input signal is removed.

  • freisste Jan 18, 2009

We just bought this TV and are having the same problem. The only way to get rid of the humming is to mute the TV or turn it off. I have tried calling the warranty number but it goes to a voice mail where you can leave a message.

  • Anonymous Jan 27, 2009

Same problem, soon to be Ex-wife bought one at circuit city, probably no chance to return it. I didn't notice that setting 'surround' to 'mono' fixed it, not sure I tried that option and I thought I tried everything.

  • gfabulous Jan 27, 2009

Thought it was a great deal, bought it, set it up and as soon as I turned it on, BUZZZZZ. There is no solution or quick fix to this problem and the manual is of no help either. Your best bet is to try to contact Proscan for an authorized fix at a local repair center but from what I've experienced and seen on several forums is that Proscan has become overwhelmed with complaints about this and have any calls about this matter go straight to their voicemail and ultimately ignoring their customers. Can anybody say class action lawsuit?

  • empowered Jan 27, 2009

Same problem - humming after about 4 or 5 minutes - I have an electronics background and I know they probably got a bad batch of audio ICs (audio chip). In a test environment - the humming starts after a certain temperature is reached by the component - if you spray canned freeze on it - it immediately stops. no way anyone's getting it fixed right away if they can't even answer their phones. That means they know they have who knows how many thousands of units out there that are all bad - and no way they are gonna cop to that on their own.

  • crazyjenn199 Jan 30, 2009

i just bought one last nigh as soon as i hooked it up hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and it dosnt stop other than that its great but the noise sure is annoying

  • ktklinger Jan 31, 2009

We have the same problem. Just bought it at Circuit City. Maybe we just got "taken" since there is no way to return it now. I thought RCA was reliable. Any ideas??

This [9876 then backlight adjust to 83] does work, but in addition to punching in the number really fast, I had to stand right in front of the TV because otherwise it would go to channel 98...

I just tried the crazy instructions about turning down the volume, pressing 9-8-7-6 then adjusting the backlight setting. IT TOTALLY WORKED! Thank you guys, I almost flipped out bc I bought it at Circuit City too (no returns)!

Set your tv to the regular channel (ex ch-3)
then point your remote at the tv and press numbers 9876
then a service menu should pop up
when it does find the setting for "backlight"
and set it to 83 thats what the guy from their technical support told me
to do and it fixed mine

Proscan 32lb30Q. I need to hook up wireless

You can buy a digital to analogue converter that connects to your COAX digital output and then connects to you RCA jacks. They run around $75. The only problem I've encountered is the DVD does not work through the COAX output, just TV. I'm looking into it.

Proscan 40' 40LC45S has a high pitched hum when it is off. Sound goes away when TV is on.

Same problem here, there is a high-pitched sound in standby. As soon as the light turns blue and the TV is on it's gone. I actually exchanged this TV three times at Best Buy but all the models made the same buzz in standby. I was told that it's normal and in the store you can't hear it since there is too much humming from other TVs around. The power is transformed down to a minimum, just for the remote controls, internal clock etc. and this causes the buzz, like when you dim your lights at home. I hooked it up to a surge-protector for clean power and just switch it off over night. During the day it's hard to hear anyway. - Again, since this is my third (!) Proscan 40' exchange I can definitely say that this is normal for this model. I was just surprised that nobody mentioned the same problem so far on the Best Buy reviews.

Proscan 32LB30Q - Troubleshooting

Costco has one of the most liberal return policies around. Simply take it back and get your money back telling them "it doesn't work" as long as you have had it less than a year. Then buy a different brand. You might try calling for customer support from the different brand before you buy.
