Can't transfer videos from JVC Everio camcorder onto my MAC

Share: How to import .tod files from JVC Everio HDD Camcorder to iMovie?

Requirements: iMovie (Part of the iLife 08 package)

Step 1: Connect the Everio to the Mac (Via USB)
Make sure you are powering the Everio from the mains before connecting your JVC Everio Camcorder.

Step 2: Playback on PC
Select “Playback on PC” on the Everio, once connected you will see the Everio HDD symbol appear on the desktop. The video files on the Everio are stored in the SD Folder/PRG***/MOV***.MOD.

Step 3: Open iMovie
Once you open iMovie, you will see that it recognizes the Everio straight away and will attempt to import your video.

You are now ready to use iMovie to edit your video files.

If need change .tod files to common video formats like mov, mp4, m4v, mpg, mpeg, dv, flv, avi, wmv, 3gp, mkv, mp3, aac, wma, m4a, etc. Mod Tod Video Converter for Mac is a good choice. The program can also convert mod tod to ipod, mod tod to iphone, tod to apple tv, tod to blackberry and more devices!

I have a JVC GZ MG145AA and i dont know how to transfer files to my computer

Their should be a USB mini plug in the very front of the camcorder.
Just left of the Microphone. Plug in a cable and the other end to you computer. Turn on the JVC If a prompt pops up on you Computer. Choose to open the folder. Or go to my computer, and find the drive that should be created. Just open the drive and find the files you want. Select them and drag them to you desktop.

A trick I had to do to get the *.moi movies to play on windows was change the file extent-ion to *.mpg..

GZ-MG330 with mac OSX 10.4.10

I had the same problem with the Everio MG330 and I have fixed this problem!!
iMovie needs to be updated to v7.1.1 or it will NOT import from the Everio MG330 HDD video camera.  iMovie '08 is not enough, it needs to be upgraded to v7.1.1

I searched long and hard and finally found this.  IT WORKS NOW!!
1. Update to iMovie 7.1.1 2. Close iMovie 3. Plug in camera using USB cable (iMovie is OFF) 4. Open camera viewer to turn on camera 5. Choose top option (I think it is watch on PC or download to PC or something like that) 6. Open iMovie and follow the pop up instructions for importing.
Please go back to all of the other places you have looked to fix this problem and post this.  Let's help each other.

JVC Everio GZ-HD3 Flash Media Camcorder

If you plug in the USB cable from the camera to a Windows XP machine, the Everio disk looks like a USB disk drive, and I can copy the files over using Windows Explorer. In order to convert them to MPG files, we are using Cyberlink PowerDirector5 NE Express, since the camera produces TOD files, which need to be converted to MPG. We are using MAGIX as the video editor after the conversion from TOD to MPG.

UpDated Firmware for the JVC GZ-HD7U.

There currently are no updates for the camcorder, they discontinued the camcorder shortly after it hit stores.. seemed to have alot of issues.
To the other user with the similar issues. The camcorder isn't the same as a DV camcorder and you may not be able to capture live. My suggestion would be to mount the camera using the USB cable and copying the video files from the camcorders internal hard drive to your desired location.
You may need an application to convert the videos, I suggest MpegStream Clip. They have a version for PC and Mac.
