Why is the new belt on my dirt devil featherlite repeatedly slipping off? Everything else on it works fine and the b elt is the correct size.

Hello! There is no other part that goes on the motor shaft after the belt is put on. The tension of the belt keeps the belt from slipping off. If you have a brand new belt that keeps slipping off you may not have the correct belt for the vacuum. Be sure you replace with a genuine Dirt Devil belt and the specified belt style for your particular unit. Hope this helps! The brush motor starts and stops during use

Is it the actual motor stopping or the belt that spins the brush that's slipping? if its belt slip, this happens, pretty common on all belt vacs, dirt and dust gets under the belt and causes it to just slip with no actual grip on the brush end. This slipping can also cause to much friction ware and actually changes the inner diameter of the belt so even cleaned it would still (maybe) slip so need a replaced belt.

But I'd take the belt off first and clean it as well as the heads it spins over then try it again. Make sure you unplug from the wall, a vac brush can and will take your fingers clean off.

Belt slipped off while in use and now it's not moving at all

The belt has probably stretched and that is why it slipped off. I would try changing the belt it should take care of the problem. You can get replacement belts here:

Roller Belt Keeps Slipping Off

You could try contacting Hoover for parts availability. If it's and older WindTunnel and Hoover no longer has the part, try eBay.

Hoover mach 4 burning smell

There are two reason you could be smelling a burning smell-
1. The belt is too stretched out and needs to be replaced. This causes it to slip when the vacuum is on and will create that type smell. You can avoid stretching and having to replace the belt to often by releasing the belt after each vacuum.

2. There may be hair or other debris stuck around the rod that the belt is attached to. Can be avoided by checking after vacuuming.

Hope this helps

New Eureka vacuum cleaner belt keeps slipping off

You may have a bad brush roll, part #61250-1, or the base itself has a problem and isn't letting the brush roll sit straight so it can be in alignment.

Smoking belt

Belt is slipping because the bearings on the beater brushes, which it turns, are jammed or full of dust.
Alternatively the belt has stretched after being overheated and needs replacing because it now slips.
