No you didnt answer the most important questions> When the tv"blinks" does the sound go on and off with the picture? Or does the picture go out to a black screen or a grey screen? or does the whole set seem like its shutting off and on again? or does ir seem like the tvs trying to tune in a channel but keeps going past the right frquency? Answer these questions and we can get somewhere.

There is a good chance that the failure is in the main power supply.
A second chance is that the set is protecting itself from a failure after the supply; this is more likely to occur in the horizontal section where the highest power consumption occurs.
If the failure is in the supply, it could be a fairly reasonable cost repair.
If in the horizontal section, depending on whether the failure is limited to a $10 horizontal output transistor or a bad flyback transformer.
The transformer should still be available but with markup, shipping and installation, the cost could exceed the $100 US mark.
Generally, I have been recommending folks repair their old standard definition sets, buy a converter box for digital TV, and not dispose of them since the flat panel sets are dying like flies, often just after the warranty expires.
This would at least provide some kind of set when the expensive LCD or plasma sets go belly up.
