Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+ Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jul 29, 2012

Liftmaster security + remotes do not operate. I bought 2 new remotes and neither one of them will program to operate the opener either.

Could it be the circuit board?

Yes it sounds like the board. Make sure the opener is not in lock. If the light in the wall control is blinking press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds.

The wall light is not blinking. The motor will open and close the door when pressing the wall button but not remotes. When trying to program the new remotes, I do not get any signs of them connecting (light flashing on opener)

This is not the wireless entry keypad...I do not have one of those. I just noticed the keypad was tied into my question

SOURCE: Only Keyless entry or remotes can be programmed but not both

If you can program your remotes but when you program your keypad the remotes quit working and vice versa you have either the wrong keypad or it has reverted to an earlier technology. Make sure the keypad is for your specific model door opener.

SOURCE: Liftmaster Keypad problem

First thing to do is make sure it has a good battery installed. If this doesn't take care of the problem then the keypad is going bad and needs to be replaced. It is important that you get the same keypad as there are others out there that look the same but will not work.

If the recycled remote is Security + there is no logical reason the new units should not work. If the old remote is a different technology and there have been changes to the opener or a different receiver that could be the problem.

Universal garage door remote

I have a feeling your neighbor operated their door opener when you were programming your new clicker. Try erasing the memory of your opener and then program the clicker again making sure your neighbors do not operate theirs at the same time. To erase the memory hold the smart/learn button in for 10 seconds.

Liftmaster Professional and Clicker Programming Problems

The Security+ system is a rolling code system and is digital, so it will work with the Homelink in vehicles and with the remote control units that come with the opener. Also with new remotes that are purchased specifically for that opener. Your "clickers" require specific instructions and you need to use the Smart Learn function in order to use them with this opener. In addition, check the Brand Switch settings to be sure they apply to your opener, and the correct Smart Button color on the opener. Read carefully to determine whether you need to set ANY dip switches at all or can you just set them all to off depending on your opener? Check the instructions carefully. Here's a link to the page where you can download a copy of the Clicker instructions if you don't already have it:

I CAN NOT PROGRAM MY BUILT IN CAR REMOTE ON MY NEW 139.53985DM

didnt try everything cause if you did, it would work! Get two people and garage door opener. One read manual from car under Garage door" or Homelink while other pushes button. When manual says if this did not work or if you have security plus or rolling code, continue with other instructions. You will need a working remote and will need to pushh learn button on motor logic board.
