In media center the 7.1 is often preferred thanthe 5.1 surround system. The 7.1(the point 1 stands for sub-woofer) gives you abetter experience in movies an much more detailed and accurate sound than the5.1 systems. However the quality of the system is very important and oftenthere are 5.1 system that produce a much better sound than the 7.1.

Samsung Surround Sound & Palsonic TV = no surround sound on TV

Do you have an optical audio output jack on your tv? Some tv's don't output audio from that jack unless you go into the setup menu and turn in on.

Vsx-815 sb. system

Check in your speaker setup menu. Sometimes you can select between using the surround back speaker jacks as "B" front speakers as well. You would have to tell the unit which one you want to use it as.

Outputting aux audio

the unit has 2 audio out ports

that you can send to your amp

plug rca cables to the correct aux inputs on your amp and switch the amp to the correct input on the controller and you will hear sound

ps we needed to more about your amp in this case but if it has a red fiber connection for audio that is better because it is digital between the TV and the amp

Have lenoxx ht 500 surround sound speakers & dvd but dvd is broken, need to purchase another dvd player but can't source lenoxx model, what other models can i connect surround sound to? or whe

If your surround sound receiver unit has rca audio inputs(red/white), you can hook up any brand of DVD player that has rca outputs. You would hook the yellow output from DVD player to yellow input on TV. Hook red/white output from DVD player to red/white input on surround receiver. Hope this helps.

How do i get my TV to play through my surround sound system

I don't know which receiver you have but, I can give you a basic idea.
You need RCA cables Yellow for Video, Red and White for Audio.
You may not need to connect the Yellow cable for the Video again, it depends on the receiver you're using. Basically, to get the TV sound from your Surround system, you only need the white and Red RCA cables.
Connect one side of the RCA cable white & Red to the receiver (IN) and the other side of the RCA Cable to the TV or cable box (out) You need to select the source on the receiver, AUX or Video.

I could help better if I knew which receiver, if you're using a cable box and how are you getting TV signal? do you select CH 3 or AV to watch TV?

Best of luck to you.

Considering you only have 3 speakers, I would think you would be further ahead by purchasing an entirely new system.
