Wireless device disappeared with Windows Vista installation

Windows Vista seems to have eliminated my wireless receiver that was working fine with my TrueMobile 1184 router before when I had XP. I can't even find the device in Device Manager.

Unfortunately, you have mentioned the router, which is no longer supported on the Dell site, but not the network card you are trying to use, please advise so as we can try for a driver. I assume you have tried installing the XP driver, as sometimes this may or may not work.

We have an Advent 7088 laptop and want to connect it to wireless router. We thought a wireless facility was already installed in the 7088 but when we try the wireless on/off button nothing happens. What...

Try this: I found it after doing some searching on the web.

Wireless card stops working after upgrading to Windows Vista
After upgrading to Windows Vista everything works fine apart the Marvell Wireless card, when you press the button nothing happens.
There seems to be three different ways of solving this problem (there is a fourth - don't install Vista) and I've listed them below, hopefully at least one should work for you.
The first solution is to press the wireless button while Windows Vista is loading, you have to be quick though as it only works if you press the button between the loading scrolling lines logo (after the post screen) and before the windows logo appears.
The second is to go into Device Manager, select the Marvell Wireless card and then go to Properties>Advanced>Default Adhoc Mode. Here change the Default Adhoc mode to B or G. When you confirm the change the wireless connection should become active, if it doesn't then press the wireless button and try changing the setting again.
The third method is to create a desktop shortcut to the wireless adapter. Go to [Network and Sharing Centre]>[Manage Network Connections] and then right click the wirless connection and choose Create Shortcut. You can then switch on the wireless at any time, just point at the shortcut then right click and chose Disable. Once its disabled right click on the shortcut again and choose Enable. It should then connect within 20-30 seconds.

It does not connect

Wireless Adapter is a device that will receive the wireless signals and will make your computer wireless adapter. without the wireless adapter you can not use the computer to connect to the wireless network. Now a days all the laptops and desktops are equipped with the built in wireless adapters.
First check whether you have a wireless adapter on your computer ?

WIN XP
Right click on MY COMPUTER ==> properties ==> Device Manager ==>
you will see Network adapter ==> under network adapter you will see the wireless adapter ==> Right clink on the wireless adapter ==> properties => Check whether it says the Device is working properly or not ?If it says working properly then that's great !

WIN VISTA/ Windows 7
Click START ==> Control Panel ==> In the right hand side at the top you will see " Classic View "
Switch to classic view ==> you will see Device Manager ==> Under Network Adapters you will find your wireless adapter listed . Right clink on the wireless adapter ==> properties => Check whether it says the Device is working properly or not ? If it says working properly then that's great !

If you do not see wireless adapter in the Device manager , then either you do not have the adapter or the wireless adapter is not working .If you see "yellow exclamation mark" on the wireless adapter, that means the drivers are not installed for the adapter or not working. Reinstall the drivers.
Once your adapter is working properly , try to connect to the wireless network.

If you are installing the external wireless adapter to the computer and if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows 98 , ME, then you will have to connect to the wireless network using the utility of that adapter.
If you are using Win XP then you can use windows to connect to the wireless network or you can use other utility.
In case of Win VISTA, you will use windows to connect to the wireless network.

No driver after reboot

Alas, driver to what. It always helps to state device, brand, model, operating system in a query.

Here is some information. No way for me to narrow it to the relevant device. Don't know what that is!

Wireless adapter in Acer 5610-4610 is gone suddenly

Few ideas here, but obviously these are tricky questions.

Uninstall all software related to the wireless NIC, and then uninstall the hardware in device manager. Shut the machine down. Turn the machine over and remove all the little doors and look to see if the wireless NIC is an add-in card you can access. If it is, remove the retaining screw and remove it. Reboot machine, let it boot up, log in, and then shut down again. Reinstall the wireless card and close everything up again. When you reboot, you *should* get the new hardware found message, if you do, install the with the latest drivers and then reboot, and then check to see if the device is working properly in device manager (no warning messages). If it does not recognize the hardware, check in device manager if it has somehow put it on the unknown device list. If it has, try installing the latest drivers manually for the device by using properties tabs on unknown device in device manager.

If the problem is that the devices won't recognise and install their own drivers, you have a different problem which HP or whomever should solve.

Note, too, that if the laptop included custom control software for wireless connectivity (Intel, I am looking in your direction), the card may not be recognized without it, so install that software again, too.

Hope this helps...

Wireless Adapter not working under Vista

Some device may not have Vista drivers or the drivers are still beta and they dont work always perfectly. Check which kind of wireless adapter is present on your laptop from device manager on XP. Then try downloading Vista drivers for your wireless adapter form wireless card factory website, and install them on Vista.
