Question about Samsung HL-R5668W 56" HDTV

1 Answer

DLP problems Hello, my model no. is actually HL-S5688W. This set was delivered on Friday, and the problem I'm having has gotten progressively worse each day. I can only descibe it as the TV is posessssed. It basically does whatever it wants whenever it wants. To be more specific, the set will freeze up then go blank then go blue then shut off then come on play for a short while then freeze then play for a while with some of the pixels dropping in and out. When this is going on I have absolutely no control over it. Neither the remote or the panel controls work. I have continuously tried unplugging and plugging the set. If the set is unplugged for several hours and then plugged back in, it will work for the first 5 or 10 minutes then the channel freezes. Meaning I have lost control of the TV. If I try to turn the set off, it will continue to play for a while then freeze, go black or blue then eventually shut off. I have contacted Samsung and they have arranged for a service call, but I have to wait a week before someone can take a look at it. I would appreciate any advice you may have.

Since you cannot control the set with the remote, it is a main board problem

Hello Glen Harrison,
Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!
To answer your question: This sounds like a weak capacitor on the power supply board.
You are right though, I would recommend a Black Friday special! By the time you put in a $90.00 part with labor, you might as well purchase a newer unit.
Have a great day!

I need directions to replace the DMD\DLP Chip in a Samsung HL-P5085W. Can you tell me where I can get directions/diagrams?

you will need the service info to dissassemble the Set and the DMD chip is usually held in with screws or clamps depending on chassis design. You can get the service info from www.servicemanuals.vstore.ca delivered by download link.

52" Samsung DLP

It is unlikely that you can do anything yourself.
It sounds to me that there is a power supply problem that has steadily gotten worse and that cannot be confirmed remotely, it must be done on site by an equipped professional.
