Question about Toshiba 36AF53 36" TV
I have a Toshiba 36AF53; it is only a little over 3 years old. Today, the remote stopped controlling the TV; however, it will still control the VCR & DVD player. Therefore, I know that (a) the remote works (b) the batteries work The TV does work if I use the manual controls. Therefore, I know the TV works. So, it looks like the remote receiver component is broken. However, this happened one other time. That time, I unplugged the TV from AC mains for about a minute, then plugged it back in - this fixed the issue. I tried the same thing this time, with no luck. Could this problem be something else? (a) Can I fix this myself without a schematic (I have an EE degree), or can I get a schematic somewhere? If so, where can I find out the mfg & part number of the component(s) needed? (b) Is it cost effective to get this fixed by a repair man?
Sometimes the led reciever for the tv goes out could need to be replaced if the remote works on other items

Your remote control could still be the problem. Try another Toshiba remote on your TV or try your remote on another Toshiba and see what happens. Don't ever look past the easy repairs.

I've tried another programmable remote that has always worked - it does not work either.
Out of curiosity, what in the remote could be borken, if it still controls other devices?
