Probably blown fuse on the power board. If you hear a "pop" sound, you have blown couple of fuse along with some other components. When a small fuse blows you cannot hear any sound. Camera needs a new power board and repair cost may run from $175-275 depending on damaged parts.

I HAVE A SONY CAMCORDER FROM THE USA CAN I DOWNLOAD FILM TO IMOVIE

which kind of camcorder? the hdv versions usually had a ilink port which was a 4pin firewire that can hook up to the 9pin firewire on macs. if you have a newer model mac with a thunderbolt port there are adapters you can get for firewire. newer model sony camcorders usually have sd cards you can take out and drag files over. there might also be a usb port option.

Heard a pop, tv went off, and it won't power up

Power supply in most cases and a lot of the time the part is under a heat sink where you cannot see it.

You might have more help if you posted the question again with the exact brand and model number.......

Hello, I have a Sony Digital8 Handycam 700x SteadyShot DCR-TRV 230. Can I bypass the tape cassette and record directly into a PC? If so, would I still need to insert a tape? Thank you for your help.

No, that's not possible unfortunately. The live stream would have much more data than the USB or firewire connection could handle, and your PC would have to be top notch spec wise to keep up.

Long answer short, no.

My Firebox was working, then I heard some sort of pop noise and now the firewire doesn't work and/or power when hooked up via power adapter. Is there a way this can be fixed?

If you understand the working of the power circuit and have a multi-meter and soldering tools you can possibly do the repairs yourself. Be advised this could be dangerous. The power circuit may possibly still have charged capacitors which can discharge and cause injury or death. The popping sound you heard was most likely a capacitor or Zenor Diode pop when it went out. You will need to find the faulty part and replace it.

Need adaptor for older Sony analog camcorder - CCD-TRV70 DC 6V

You need to get a Digital to Analogue converter such as the Canopus ADVC110 A/D Converter. (circa $225). There may be cheaper alternatives. (you might also be able to use a digital camcorder that has a built in Analogue to digital converter):
 Canopus 77010150100 ADVC110 Converter

The Canopus comes with a 6-pin firewire cable. Since your Dell Studio has a 4 pin Firewire (actually called iLink) you will also need a 6-pin to 4-pin cable or an adapter:
 Firewire 6-PIN To 4-PIN Cable

 Cables To Go - 27028 - Firewire 6-Pin Female 4-Pin Male Adapter

You hook your Sony up to the A/D converter with audio and video cables (usually supplied with your camcorder) and hook the converter to you Dell with a firewire cable. Then you capture the video using some video capture software. I don't know what comes with windows these days.

My new Imac won't recognize my cannon zr65 camcorder help please.

Some FireWire cameras do not play nice with other FW devices. Try unplugging the LaCie drive and any other FireWire device, then connect the camera directly to the Mac. iMovie should detect it then.
