Lionel train power issue

We are trying to set up a refurbished lionel train set. We have the copper wires in place and the lockon connected to the tracks but we cannot get the transformer power to connect to the train power.

These engines have not been operated for over five years, they respond to TMMC Railsounds but will not move, I tried to lubricate the gears, but cannot move the wheels.

Answer a number of questions:
Is the tranformer power adequate for the train and is it a working tranformer?
Will the train run by connecting the wires directly to the two points of the train (wheels and center rail connector)?
Are the tracks new?
Is the lockon new?

Sounds like the tracks are connected to the CW-80 aux connections not the train connection and that the aux voltage is fixed programmed to 0 or a very low voltage. This is a common mistake when hooking up the CW-80.

Bad connections, wires to/from the transformer, or maybe a real dirty track.
try spraying a very small amount of CRC [brand ) 226 it is better than any contact cleaner on the market. do not get it on the rubber traction wheels on the engine. If you do, wash off with alcohol using a cotton swab on the rubber band on the traction wheel....
check the voltage on the transformer with a multi meter should be 3 to 14 volts .
if that is ok, ckeck voltage on the rails, if that is ok, it is the switch unit on the engine. Again, find the switch, with a spray tube that came with the CRC 226, spray a small amount og the contact area[ this is called an "e-unit switch " and are 90% of the electrical source problems on the older engines,,BUT all are repairable !!!!

Can two tracks be powered with the Lionel Trainmaster R 100 Watt transformer?

Track 1 as you have it connected is terminals B-F. The second track would be terminals B-C. Connect post B to the outer rails Terminal 1 ? on your lockon. THis will give you 6-16 volts at the track.

What guage wire should I use to connect a train transformer to the O gauge lockons on the train track? thank, E.S

I have used 18ga lamp wire but you can use wire as thin as telephone wire. My rule of thumb is to use thicker wire (lower gauge number) the more motors on the train you are running. 20 or 22ga is generally used by most.

My new lionel train slows down on far side of the track

There is bad contact in the track connections. You can sand the track connection sites. Another method is to run another power wire to the other end of the track where the train slows down. Even better is 3 or 4 evenly spaced power wires from the transformer to the track.

I have Lionel Fastrack 048 switch. I extended the controller wire and all of my slices are perfect. The switch operates but the light in the controller does not operate - neither red or green. I checked...

You will need to check continuity of the yellow RSC wire from inside the controller to where it enters the switch connection block. Neither light will work if this wire is broken.

2nd: Lionel quality control is so poor that if that is not the problem, remove the plate from the bottom and make sure the five plugs are firmly in place on the electronic board. Since both green and red do not work it is most likely not the micro switchs but an issue with the circuit board.

Connect the lionel ctc lockon to the track

The lockon is for tubular O or O-27 track. Slide the large part of the clip over the bottom flange of one outer rail....straight track works best and snap the cmaller clip onto the center rail. the two small terminals are your wire connections.
