DVD Writer I have a SONY Model No DW Q30A DVD writer. It has suddenly stopped reading CD ROMs but reads DVD. Can you help me as to why it occurs and How to remedy it? I am using NERO 7 for reading / burning CD/DVD? Using AVAST anti virus on my Computer. Motherboard is INTEL 945 GNT with Pentium D 2.8 GHz Processor. Gursengr

You can firstly try this:- Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your cd/dvd drives and click the '+' sign then highlight your dvd drive and right click to delete. Restart the pc and windows will find the drive again automatically and install the drivers. But it may well be that your laser will need re aligning and cleaning with a cd cleaner, but if still no change the laser is on it's way out, I am lead to believe some burners have dual lasers for dvd and cd

If your computer has a DVD rom or writer then this problem usually occurs. DVD roms or writers are very unreliable when it comes to reading CD's after some time of use the DVD roms do not read CD's but will read DVDs and then if it is a writer it will stop writing all will write and stop before finalizing. This problem is caused by the lens assembly which misaligns after a long time of use or the lens assembly itself no longer focusing correctly. However if you have a CD rom or CD writer then you must start by cleaning it. The cleaning of CD roms can be easy or slightly complicated if the lens is covered with residue that is moisture related. That is the lens could have accumulated dirt mixed with moisture then dried up. This would need manual cleaning using a cotton bud with some of the liquid that comes with the Disc cleaners you clean the lens until it is squeaky clean. Do this being careful not to scratch. But first try cleaning with the disc cleaner. If it doesn't work then do the manual way. If all this does not work then change the lens assembly or buy a new DVD rom or writer.

Teac Dw 224E-R WONT BURN ON A DVD - Is it a DVD Writer?
hi no its only a CD RW, and not a CD/DVD-RW its just a CD writer and a dvd( rom )..read only memory which means it only reads dvd's but does not write them...hope this helps

I have just bought a lg GE20 External Super Multi DVD Rewriter. The drive is recognised but when I insert the install disk this is not recognised at all. Neither are any other DVD-Roms I insert.
Please install NERO cd/ dvd writer software. With out these u r dvd writer can t read any dvd on read CD. Hope you understand.

I am having a LG DVD writer GSA-4167B currently stops reading or writing disks after few runs
as with all writers eventually they fault at the lens and it gets out of line and cannot read discs, you can try the usual thing of checking LG for any firmware updates, but first:- Go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall. Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays.

It sounds as if the drive needs cleaning and re aligning with a lens cleaner or replacing, but try one thing before doing anything. DVD reading problem
1. go to device manager / right click on cd drive / uninstall driver / reboot and windows will reinstall driver 2. go to My computer right click on cd drive properties - check digital cd playback recording - check enable cd recording on this drive driver - update or uninstall reboot your computer Goodluck!
