Question about GE WSM2480DWW Unitized Spacemaker Washer and Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Washer/Dryer Hi -- I have a WSM2480DWW GE Spacemaker Washer/Dryer unit and need to fix the lid switch. To get accss to it I need to open the front panel but there are no screws anywhere. Do you know how to get that panel off? I've tried pulling and prying, etc... Thanks!

Thanks catriver, that helped. There are indeed two white plastic clips there but a putty knife won't work. There's a small space in the center of the clips that a small square-head screwdriver will fit into. I had to shove it in and press down on the screwdriver until I sort of forced the top of the machine outward just enough so the other parts of that clip would let go, then the top of the machine could be lifted enough to get at the lid swtich. The front panel wouldn't drop as expected, there may be more clips for that.
Thanks for your help! This site was the only place I could get assistance.
    Cheers--
    Lincoln.

Lincoln, there should be two clips on each side just below the top. Take a puddy knife and push in on the clips. The front panel should release and pull foward. Catriver..post back.

My ge spacemaker is about 6yrs. old it will not spin or dry clothes how do i fix it w/o paying a repair man

i would first check the lid switch it could have a broken wire on it. here is the picture of where it is250 located. the part number for it is WH12X955. you could also check the direct drive coupling which is located on the motor shaft and consists of 3 pieces. this coupling takes the place of a belt. your machine does not have a belt on it. the coupling part number is 285140. hope this helps.

My GE Spacemaker Dryer Model WSM 2700 DA no longer heats up. HOw difficult is it to change the heater element or is that the problem? P.S. I have cleaned all the vents out with very little material found.

either the heating element, hi-limit switch, thermal fuse (on some), cycling switch,or a burned neutral power wire in the unit, first, make sure you have 240 volts input power

GE WSM2480TBAW Spacemaker Laundry, Won't Drain or Spin

Hi,
you need to remove the slanted panel between the washer and the dryer. There will be 2 screws holding the top of the washer to the cabinet. Locate the screws on the back edge of the washer top along with the 2 brackets that hold the top.
Once the brackets have been removed, the washer top panel will pull toward you and lift off of the cabinet. You will be able to see the lid switch and test it. If you are testing the lid switch for continuity, remamber to activate the switch while testing. If the switch shows an open circuit, replace the switch.
Please let me know if this hhelps you at all or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

GE Spacemaker stackable washer/dryer

You should go in through the front. Use a flashlight and look between the front panel and the top panel. You should see some clips there. Stick a flathead screwdriver into the clips to pop the top up and then remove the front. The front may be held in by screws, but since I don't know which model you have, look inside once you pop the top and see if there are screws. Then you should be able to remove the front panel and see the belt.

How to open front panel of washing machine?

I think you use a putty knife and slip it between the lid and the front panel and depress some clips that hold it on.  I'm looking for the same answer and that's all I've been able to piece together so far. The GE manual is worthless on this point.
