The manual can be downloaded from Garmin. www.garmin.com/manuals/3130_OwnersManual.pdf
1. Touch Where To? > Address. 2. Change the state, the country, or the province, if necessary. 3. Touch Search All. If you know the city, touch Spell City, enter the city/postal code, and touch Done. Select the city/postal code in the list. (Not all map data provides postal code searching.) 4. Enter the number of the address, and touch Done. 5. Enter the street name, and touch Done. 6. Select the correct street in the list, if necessary. 7. Touch the address, if necessary.
The unit does not "guess" streets. It suggests possibilites based on the location in its database. If it is pulling up incorrect information, the city may be wrong. Try re-entering the address without entering the city. Instead, press "Search All." Then enter the rest of the address. Sometimes the address will be listed as being in a different/nearby town due to the ZIP code. Let me know if this helps.
The maps are purchased from the post office. The post office locally will many times call your address other than the legal address for various and sundry reasons. Please check with your local officials and you will see what your legal address is. I found this out working for the Census.
If the unit is suggesting a different street name, try re-entering the address. When you get to the city, hit, "Search All." Then enter the address as normal. It is possible the address is listed as being in a different city, due to the ZIP code. Let me know if this helps.
When you are entering the address, do NOT enter the city name. Instead, press "Search All". Then enter the address, and see if it gives you Avenue. More than likely, the address you are looking for is listed in the unit as being in a different/nearby city (likely due to the ZIP code). See if this helps.
Take it back to the 'secure location' as indicated in your service manual. It will automatically unlock when it gets a full satellite signal. You have to enter the PIN number twice when setting up the unit. You should always use a number which is familiar to you so you can remember it. If you can't remember it, and if your secure location doesn't unlock the unit, you will need to send the unit to Garmin to unlock it. You will need your receipt for Garmin to unlock the unit.
The only ways to unlock a PIN locked Garmin are to enter the correct PIN number, or take the unit to the location at which the PIN was initially entered. Your only other option is to send the unit to Garmin.
If the unit is not allowing you to continue to enter the street address, press the back button until you get to the city. Press "Search All" instead of the name of the city and try the address again. It could be that the unit has the address listed in a different city (it sometimes goes by how the post office lists the ZIP code). See if this helps. As for taking the unit apart to access the reset button, all you have to do is remove the faceplate. There is an intentation under the top. Insert your fingertip and pull it forward. Carefully remove the faceplate, and the reset button is on the right hand side.
