Roadmate 760 won't turn on..

When I plug the power adapter into the car , the screen flashes white and then nothing. I can't get it to 'boot.' Pressing the the blue power button on the left does nothing. If I unplug the power and plug it back in, same thing happens: white screen flashes for half a second and then nothing. I changed the fuse in the car adapter and had the same results. Thanks for and advice/help you can offer. -Joe

White screen is giong to either be your LCD or Hard Drive. I would try changing out either one of these. If your warranty's out or dont' want to pay to send it in, then try this. Make sure the cables coming from the LCD to the mainboard (the large PCB (circuit board)), also, make srue the cable going from your Hard Drive to the Main board is tight. I'd even release each cable and plug them back in. Hope this helps. -Daniel

GPS doesnt turn on with power cord adaptor or 12v lighter socket

if you can verify that the car charger is ok, try plugging it in to your computer using the usb cable. the 1412 should charge with the usb cable. if it still doesnt turn on, try and reset the unit, little pin hole on the side.

Roadmate 760 Password Reset

Dark,

Although it has been some time now since I've worked on these, I beLIEve if you plug the unit into your computer you can explore the files and there should be a file called password or pwd or.. something along those lines.. all you have to do is delete the file and it will work. It was surprisingly easy I remember that much. If this doesn't work, play/look around with the files in the unit, and as a precaution I would copy the file over to your computer prior to deleting just in case.

Magellan Roadmate 760

The weakness of the 760 is the cradle. Is the power wire or the cradle loose or wiggles? You may need to buy a new cradle if that is the case. They are expensive. I soldered my power wire right into the cradle and it worked fine.

Turns off when i move the gps slightly.....

I'm going to guess you need a new cradle. The pin inside mine broke off in the female end of the car adapter, resulting in no power. If it's loose & periodically making contact, it would power on & off before finally going off for good. Cradles can be had on ebay for around $20.

try holding the reset button on the back in for 30 seconds.    Sounds like its in test or programming mode.

MRM 700 won't start; screen flashes white . . . help.

stonelinton, It's not your LCD, otherwise you would have heard the sound of buttons being pushed. If your units first screen is white and there is no logo screen or any legible images, then it's your NAND flash on your main board. The first image produced upon boot is the blue magellan screen. This is produced from the NAND flash and will show it no matter if a hard drive is present or not. After the Magellan screen it pulls images from the hard drive. So, it is the mainboard and the only way to fix it is to send it to Magellan repair and they will have to put in a new mainboard then reprogram your serial number, etc.
