Bemis Water Wick 6974Tanks will not disperse water properly

The unit we have is approximately 7-8 years old and we have replaced the filter and wick assembly nearly once a year. Despite this preventive maintenance the unit is not working properly. The Fan will run continuously, but the water will not drain from the tank into the reservoir and the wick will dry out. When I remove the tanks the suction is such that water can no longer flow from the tanks. If I turn the tanks upside down(cap up) the tank will then allow air to enter the tank and equalize the pressure. When the tank is placed back into the unit water will flow until pressure becomes such that it becomes air locked again. We have cleaned the caps to no avail. Do I need new caps for the tanks, or is there some other issue? Very Dry in PA.

Sounds like new caps should solve it, but have you tried soaking the old caps in vinegar overnight? these guys are not the only ones, but they have the correct caps in stock at a pretty good price http://www.marbeck.com/humidifier_parts_bemis.html hope this helps :)

I have Bemis (Esswick) Humidifier Model # 4968. The motor runs fines however I can't get the humidity in my above 30%. I changed the filter and it was close to 45% for a few days but running continuously,...

You should be able to get a higher humidity rate at normal settings. If you want high humidity above 40% that should be easily done with the high speed operation. The unit may need a good internal cleaning, and use a Vinegar solution to clear any Calcium or other mineral deposits from the misting ports and misting elements. You must use only Distilled or Filtered water, not tap water.

Wont run in unit lift out and lift level control works fine put it back in unit [ very tight fit] lift level control wont work

Hello.

The GE humidifier adds a continuous stream of cool mist intothe air, giving moisture to dry air due to cold weather or dry climate or tohelp those who desire additional moisture because of respiratory problems orallergies. Sold online and in many department or home retail stores, thehumidifier requires regular cleaning and maintenance for proper functioning andto help keep mineral scale or bacteria from growing in the humidifier. ·1 Connect the power cord on the GE humidifier firmly to a power outlet if thehumidifier is not working. Replace or reset the circuit breaker as necessary.Turn the power switch to "On" if there is power but the unit is notoperating. · 2 Fill thewater tank to the "Fill" mark if the mist output is low or notpresent. Wait 15 minutes after filling the tank and before starting thehumidifier to allow the wick filter to absorb the water for proper function.Turn the humidistat knob to a higher setting for higher output. · 3 Check the capon the water tank and close the cap firmly. Check the rubber tank cap ring onthe cap and reseat firmly to help provide a better seal. · 4 Replace thewick filter with a new wick filter, available through General Electric, if thewick filter inside the base turns brown. Replacement parts may be ordered bycalling 877-207-0923. · 5 Clean thewater tank with vinegar and a soft brush if the water begins to get cloudy.Rinse well before refilling with water. Use cold water in the tank, as warm orhot water may make the water appear cloudy. · 6 Loosen thetank cap slightly if the humidifier cycles on and off unexpectedly. Turn theknob to a higher or lower setting. Thanks.

I have two questions. How do I properly clean my humidifier and recently it has started coating my furniture with a white powdery film. Why has it started that?

there is some cleaning tablets you can use periodically called protec beads ... cleaning can be done using high acid vinegar soak .. then hydrogen peroxide can be used on any mold .. this unit as well as ultrasonic type models will put out calcium dust if your water has calcium added or is hard water .. calcium is often added to water to give it a good taste .. one way to keep the unit clean for a long time is to use only distilled water .. and make sure there is no calcium added .. (read the small print on the container) .. its hard to clean the fan chamber in this unit .. lots of people complain about the dust .. the wick/filter type humidifiers dont put out dust but the calcium does accumulate on the wick/filter .. so you have to change that frequently (6-9 weeks) .. yours doesnt have a wick but still needs cleaned regularly ..

How do I change the filter, (Holmes hm7204 Humidifier) Where does it go?

REPLACING THE FILTERS
Through normal use, waterborne minerals and sediment
become trapped in the wick filters. The harder your
water, the greater the amount of minerals in the water,
and the more often you will be able to monitor the life of
your filters in your humidifier.
You will be able to monitor the life of the filters in your
humidifier by checking the FilterCheck® Indicator. After
60 minutes of use, FilterCheck® Indicator will move and
indicate your filters condition. New filters will register in
the section reading Good filter. After frequent use of your
humidifier, the FilterCheck® Indicator will let you know
when the filters need to be changed, see Figure 2.
When the needle is in the CHANGE section, this means the
proper amount of moisture is not getting into your air due
to the excessive minerals and sediment that have become
trapped on your filters. At this point, you should replace your
filters. It is important to change your filters as
indicated to obtain stated performance level.
To replace the filter, follow the steps below:
1. Turn the unit off and disconnect from the electrical
outlet.
2. Remove the tank and main housing to access the base.
3. Remove the wick holder from the base of the humidifier.
4. Remove each individual wick and discard. Do not
remove rivet, replacement wicks come equipped with
rivets for easy replacement.
5. Follow the weekly cleaning instructions.
6. Insert new filters into each section of the wick holder
making sure the rivet attaches to the wick holder
securely.
7. Do not use wicks without rivets as this will not
produce the units intended output.
8. Replace the wick holder into the base and replace
main housing and then tank.
9. Repeat Operating Instructions.
It will take about 30 minutes for the humidifier to reach
maximum output.
Cheers!

Cleaning instructions

nvm :)

Features: Low Maintenance:
* Regulated Release ™ System - eliminates stagnant water while preventing mineral build-up on the wick or filter, which can impede performance in ordinary evaporative humidifiers.
* Dishwasher-Safe, Easy-Clean Base and Tank - with antimicrobial agents molded into plastic parts to inhibit the growth of microorganisms.
* PermaWick ™ - permanent wick never needs to be replaced, saving up to $45 per year in replacement filter costs.
* Top Down Water Dispersion - evenly disperses water from the top over the entire wick to prevent mineral build up that can impede performance.

Moisture not coming out

i realize this answer is a year old; but, i would guess you didn't let the wick become saturated before running. fill the resevoir with water, then let the humidifier sit idle while the wick is saturating. when it is completely saturated, the refill light will go off. refill the resevoir with additional water, as needed. then you can run the humidifier.

Those filters don't last forever! Whenever I had that problem, I just replaced the filter. (The fresh filters also contain some kind of anti-bacterial or anti-fungal, since you're not supposed to add anything to the water which would spray into the air.) My problem has been finding new filters--does Sears still carry them? (The small one I was in recently does NOT.)
