I need a manual to figure out why i cant be heard from my radio shack trc-481 CB rabio. anyone know where i can download a PDF file for it?
Google Radioshack TRC-481...the first few links will bring you to the manual.
But your highly unlikely to find the answer to your problem there.
Im a radio tech, & have a few years of xp. under the belt.
Now before I go throwing information your way, what all problems are you experiencing?

I can answer almost every question you have.
*NOW FOR A FEW HELPFUL HINTS)
The most common reason this happens, mostly for those who know little about radios...is that the finals/mosfets have been blown (burnt up) from an improperly installed antenna.
2nd, RF amp has has an internal part shorted out
3rd, cracked solder on the circuit board
4th, microphone isnt working or properly connected.
In reality...each is a simple fix.
Takes more time to figure out the problem than it does to fix it (in most cases)
Insure that you can receive transmitting stations.
• Be sure you are pressing the talk button
all the way in
• Make sure CB/PA is set to CB.
• have a check on cable and PL259 connectors
• Insure that the antenna resonates on the same operating
frequency of your radio, that is 11 meters
To determine if you have a bad finals, only your neighbor
@ about 20 ft can hear you.

After installing the antenna, follow these steps to adjust the
standing wave ratio(SWR).
1. Turn on the CB.
2. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to CAL.
3. Key the Mic and rotate SWR CAL so the meter points
to CAL.
4. Unkey Mic.
5. Set S/RF/SWR/CAL to SWR.
6. Key Mic again and note the actual measurement on
the SWR scale. Refer to the following table to interpret
the reading.
1:1 - 1.5 Great
1.5 - 2:1 OK
2:1 - 3:1 Not So Good
Higher than 3.1:1 Terrible
The ideal standing wave ratio (SWR) is 1:1, or a meter
reading of 1 on the SWR meter's top scale. A SWR ratio
of 1.5:1 to 2:1 is excellent for most mobile CB antenna
applications.
Check the SWR on Channel 1 and Channel 40
If the SWR is higher on 1, make the antenna longer
If the SWR is higher on 40, make the antenna shorter
Most antenna's are adjustable. Make small adjustments at a time.
