Question about USA Spec MERC99 6-Disc CD Changer

1 Answer

Inoperable CD changer

When I press "CD" on the radio of my 2000 Mercedes Benz C280 the message "No Magazine" appears. The changer has power but I am not able to eject the magazine. I believe the problem is a hardware problem, possibly a misguided or jammed CD. Does anyone know how to remove the magazine when the button designed for this purpose won't do the trick?

Thanks for the suggestions Mark. I shall try them. I have had recent developments concerning this issue:
I took the car to a mechanic to help resolve the problem. He removed the unit from the car and the cover from the unit. Inside he turned a cogged wheel (sorry, I don't know the technical term) with a screwdriver until it stopped turning. He was then able to eject the cartridge. The unit worked well after that for only about 2 hours playing time, when the same symptoms returned. The mechanic then repeated the previous-stated procedures in order to eject the cartridge and suggested I place another cartridge into the magazine, which I did. So far the player has worked for approximately 4 playing hours with no problems. I noticed there were silver wear spots on the old magazine where the black coating had been removed. Other than that it looked perfectly normal. Not a very scientific approach to the problem, but an easy one to experiment with.

    Hello
I have a clarion radio & CD multi changer in my lorry that worked OK until a few days ago. Now there's no power when you press the power button. I have tried the fuse's but they seem ok, any ideas?

Hi the alpine/merc/bmw cd changer all seam to suffer with the same problem, they say no disc, or no mag try firmly hitting the mag with the handle of a screw driver. the loadinga arm, tends to get stuck. you could try using some grease on the arms, and levers, white spray gease works best. but dont forget to cover the laser beforehand, you dont want grease on it :) Mark www.carradiospares.co.uk

Cd changer wont play

All radio accesories are on what is called a d2b ring. This ring consists of your c.d. player, telephone t.r.u. and voice activation module. On some vehicles the factory amplifier and tele aide modules are on this loop. If you have aphone see if it works. I do not think your amp is part of this ring although benz started incorporating the amp. in 2000 model years. The way this system works is that the head unit sends a wake up signal and verifies that these components work. Each components is in series and the last one in the loop sends the signal back to the head unit. It is easy to determine if you have a problem in your d2b ring if none of these components work. Although the head unit reads no changer I would make sure all of the c.d.s are installed correctly. You can also try and remove the unit and there should be areset button you can push in with a ball point pen at the base of the unit.
