AC WILL NOT SHUT OFF

MY LG AC UNIT CONTINUES TO RUN EVEN AFTER IT REACHES THE PRESET TEMPERATURE. THE UNIT IS ABOUT 9 MONTHS OLD.

  • ardycee Nov 08, 2007

I have the same problem, heating only. When the tstat reads 72 it clicks (a relay drops or picks up) but the inside and outside units continue to run, forever. The outside unit starts sounding like it's leaking freon, it isn't, it's just in an odd mode. I've changed the tstat for a different reason, same problem occuring. Back in the summer my ac guy came out and did a yearly for me. I think he moved one of the wires on the tstat. I put the same wires on the same lugs for the new stat, so I'm thinking this is a problem with the wiring. I have a Train.

SOUNDS LIKE THE T-STAT TEMPERATURE SENSING BULB IS OUT OF "AIR-FLOW" (SOME CAN COME LOOSE FROM THEIR MOUNTING CLIPS) OR IT IS BAD ALL TOGETHER ... MOST MANUFACTURERS HAVE A ONE-YEAR WARRANTY ON SMALL PARTS AND 5 YEARS ON THE COMPRESSOR .., HOPE IT HELPED.

Chiller power pack controlled by ranco temp control won't shut down compressor once it reaches set temperature just runs and runs and runs

There are a few potential reasons why your chiller may not be shutting down even when it reaches the set temperature:
  1. Faulty temperature control: If the Ranco temperature control is faulty, it may not be sending the correct signal to shut off the compressor and fan. Try replacing the temperature control to see if this resolves the issue.
  2. Incorrect wiring: Make sure that the compressor and fan motor are wired correctly through the Ranco temperature control. If the wiring is incorrect, the temperature control may not be able to properly control the chiller.
  3. Dirty condenser coil: A dirty condenser coil can cause the chiller to run constantly as it struggles to cool the refrigerant. Check the condenser coil and clean it if necessary.
  4. Low refrigerant charge: If the chiller is low on refrigerant, it may run constantly as it tries to maintain the set temperature. Have a technician check the refrigerant level and add more if necessary.
  5. Faulty compressor: A faulty compressor may continue to run even when the set temperature is reached. Have a technician check the compressor to see if it needs to be repaired or replaced.

When I turn the engine off the engine cooling fan stays on and does not shut off

depending on the engine temperature the fan is supposed to remain on after you turn the engine off, until the engine reaches a preset cooler temperature. when it reaches cooler temperature usually within 5 minutes or so it should cut off... if you cut it off and it is running 30 minutes later.. then there is a problem with the fan relay or temperature sending unit.

My heay surge stove will run for awhile and then shut down

The heater is thermostatically controlled, so once the room temperatures reaches the heater's preset temperature, the heater cycles off. This is normal.

However, If the heater goes off BEFORE the room reaches the preset temperature, suspect a high temperature safety switch that may be tripping. Does the heater come back on after it cools down?

After my air conditioner is on for awhile it will automatically shut off completely then after a few minutes it comes back on. It is not set on the energy saver setting. Also it is and continues to do...

Debi, it;s not unusual for an AC unit to turn ON & OFF. Once it reaches the temperature that you have it set ON and holds the temperature for 4 or 5 minutes, it will shut OFF until the room temperature rises above it. Be sure all the doors and windows are closed and no hot air is infiltrating the area.

Also, a 10,000 BTU air conditioner is not designed to handle a large area. Generally, 10,000 BTU's will handle about 3200 Cubic Feet (20' x 20' x 8' = 3200 sq ft) or simply put, 400 square feet. Your A/C unit may be undersized for the area you're trying to cool.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

At what temperture should you turn it to aux heat and why does my furnace run for hours

It should switch to the aux heat automatically, when it reaches a preset temperature. Usually, when the outside temperature reaches 32 degrees, if it's a heat pump furnace. It can bet preset a little higher though, depending on the unit. If it's extremely cold outside (in the low teens) It may run a lot longer just to keep up. Especially, if you home is not energy efficient.

If your's is not switching over automatically, the sensor switch on the heat pump may have gone pad or the aux heating strips my not be working at all. This requires the service of qualified heat pump service person..

How do I set the heat at 75 with no fan mode. I don't want the fan to come on once the room reaches 75

Hi, there is no way that this can be done. The fan is controlled by several different parts for the furnace to run properly. If you are saying that the fan continues to run after it reaches its set point, this is normal if it only runs for about a minute and 1/2. This is to cool down the heat exchanger. If it continues to run all the time after reaching its 75 degree set-point, you have a fan relay that is sticking internally, or a high limit switch that has failed and depending on how old the unit is, it may be what is called a combination fan/limit control that has dirty or burned contacts which will keep the fan on. What I am trying to say, is when your unit reaches the temperature you want, the fan should only run a short time as the limit controls are there to shut it down from a setting on the fan control that is preset by the factory. If you can give me more information on your unit such as model, serial, name of unit, and if it is a gas fired central heat and air unit, or heat only, a heat-pump ect. would be of a big help to determine what controls you have on this unit that is keeping the fan on. Leave this info in the comment thread for my user name, and I will get back to you.
Sincerely,
