Question about Sony CDX-MP40 CD Player
You are correct, the unit powers entirely from the red and yellow leads. Your symptoms sound like a unit that isn't getting power on the red (switched) lead. The most likely cause is a blown fuse in your vehicle's fuse box.

I checked the fuse box yesterday and the permanent fuse had blown (the dead interior light should have woken me to that). So it's all working fine now, but thank's for the advise anyway.
i've got a similar problem, the cd goes in and out no problem, i click reset and when the face is placed back in the unit whirls, but i dont get no lighting and the unit doesnt turn on, but the it takes CD's, anyone help??
