I've inserted old card (that used to work) and brand new card and turned on camera. Card setup page comes up.I go to format and press ok. it says format, yes/no. click yes. Says caution erasing all then new screen appears- saying card error, unable to format. I never had a problem with this card before. I bought a new card and same thing happens. The orginal 16mb will still work.
What you say Jeap is good. But before replacing the card, I would try cleaning the gold surface with a very little amount of denatured alcohol. Sometimes dirt on the surface will interfere with the contact.

Formatting a CF Card

Turn the power on.
Press the <MENU> button and select [ (Set up)] using or .
Select (Format) using or and press the <SET> button.
Select [OK] using or and press the <SET> button.

The capacity of the CF card displayed after formatting will be less than the rated capacity of the CF card. This is not a malfunction of the CF card or camera.

Hello, one thing you might want to try is to format the memory card. To do this: -Insert the card into your computer in the correct slot -Wait until the computer displays found new hardware/device is ready to use -Open my computer and look for the card(usually given a drive letter of H,I,J...) On most machines, it will be under a category heading of devices with removable storage -Right click and select format -Normally the default settings will work fine -Select ok/format/continue
Casio only tested 3 cards with the camera. Sandisc, Toshiba, Panasonic.
Format the internal memory of camera and then reset camera.
In rec mode press menu
go to setup tab
go up to format
press right arrow
Follow same steps for resetting.
Then insert mem card and format mem card. If that still doesn't work I would say there is something wrong with the camera itself and would need to be sent in.
Did you happen to write files to one of the cards from the computer, or delete files from the card through the computer before that happened? This problem has been known to happen in such cases. Remember to only *copy* files from the card to the computer using the card reader, and only delete files using the camera. Anyway, try turning off the camera, pulling and re-inserting the card. If it doesn't work - try it a few more times. If it still doesn't work and you've got nothing to lose, try deleting any files you may have written to the card using the computer, and then try again. But the fact that the new card didn't work as well might mean that it won't help. Good luck.
If you used the SD/MMC memory card in another brand of camera or device, you may need to format the card in your new EasyShare digital camera. (You may have noticed a "Memory Card Needs Formatting" message when you inserted the card.)
CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card.
To format the SD/MMC memory card or the internal memory of the camera:
Transfer images to the computer before formatting the memory card.
Press the camera Menu button.
Highlight SETUP MENU, and then press the OK button.
Highlight FORMAT, and then press the OK button.
Highlight an option - MEMORY CARD (deletes everything on the card), CANCEL (exits without formatting), or INTERNAL MEMORY (deletes everything in internal memory).
Press the OK button.
Highlight Continue, and then press the OK button. Wait until formatting is finished before removing the card.
When formatting is complete, the SETUP MENU is displayed.
Press the Menu button to exit the menu.
