Canon A520 Everything works, except the button you take pictures with. It wont work.

I have basically tried everything and it wont work. No matter what I do, I cant take any pictures. It used to work and now it wont, but its weird cause everything else works. The shutter is glitchy when you turn it on, but thats easily fixed.. & the camara wont take pictures. Help, anyone?

No no the shutter kindof stays closed when you turn it on, but if you touch it, it will work.

I can see an image, & i can press every button.

The only button that will not work is the one on the top, you would click to take a picture.

I need more information about what symptoms you are experiencing. I am going to guess that your shutter is stuck closed. This would cause a blank image to show on the view screen and your captured pictures. The regular icons and text would still display normally. Is this what you are seeing? If not please explain further what is happening and I will respond again with more information. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

The shield that covers the outer glass of the lens is actually not the shutter. The outer cover is the equivelant of a built-in lens cap. The shutter is at the very center of the lens and is made with incredibly thin and delicate blades. They commonly become stuck because they are built so precisely, however this is not your problem.

Does anything at all happen when you push the button to take a picture? Are there any changes in the image on the LCD or are any of the icons flashing/appearing/changing at the time you press the button?

There are a series of steps that the camera goes through when you push that button. If any of these steps fail, the camera will not take the picture.

I need to know more about what exactly happens, if anything, when you push that button.

Ok, if the camera does nothing at all when you push down the shutter release it is most likley caused by one of two things.

    1. The focus motor is jammed, preventing the camera from focusing properly and in turn preventing the image capture process from coontinuing. This would normally cause an error, which you are not seeing.

    2. The button is broken.

There is no simple way to tell, beyond what you have done, what exactly is gone wrong. I would suggest contacting your manufacturer and checking for recall/warranty coverage. Failing that you can look online for a repair provider, or replace the camera.

Canon sd will not take a picture - everything works except the shutter

If the button remains pressed down unnaturally it is probable that something like dust or sand may have gotten in the tiny space around the button. If so try tapping the camera gently. Try putting in fresh batteries, and check the settings.

No image on LCD of Canon A520

2 possibilities,
Either CCD Imager is defective and does not produce image signal Or IRIS / Aperture is stuck in lens assembly. In both cases qualified camera tech can fix it.

I bet you can't solve this.

We have a Canon A520 and it was having all the symptoms noted. Searched for a resolution on numerous sites including the Canon Support site. While on the Canon Support site, I found an FAQ on "How to RESET the A520". Turn camera on, find and hold MENU button for 5+ seconds until "Reset settings to default?" screen appears. Arrow over to OK and press the SET button. When we did this the battery low indicator showed, replaced batteries with standard alkaline batteries. Everything functions properly, with no additional problems for the past 5 days. I guess the camera just lost its mind and had to be defaulted and rebooted, hope this helps.

Canon a 620 flash

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't take a picture when the shutter button is pressed, or with an inoperative flash. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

Shutter button not working

Dear phill523:

Unfortunately the solution is to call Canon (1-800-828-4040) and send the camera into the Service Center for repair.

Hope this helps a bit.
