Oven door won't unlock

I ran the oven cleaner yesterday (definitely not the first time!) and the door won't unlock! It has been more than 24 hours. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hard for me to rate the solution because it appears that I can't verify this one myself. Need to get a repairman here so that he can take a look. At least I will be able to have a conversation with him about the problem and solution now -- and that is very good!! Thanks for your help.

There is a high limit safety thermostat that acts as a one time fuse. If the outside of the oven gets too hot it will shut down power to the elements. The safety is on the behind the back wall of the oven (depending upon the model) the wall oven will have to be pulled from the wall and the back cover removed. Be sure to shut off the circuit breaker before removing the back cover. The thermo fuse should be located slightly to the right and up from the convection fan port. The door will unlock once the power is restored to the circuit. There should be a wiring diagram inside the top control area of the oven that will help your efforts.

Hello. You have an open rear oven thermostat causing the complete power failure of your unit. The part numbers you need are W10176670 for the upgraded blower and 9759243 for the thermostat. You will have to remove the oven from the wall in order to remove the back covers to access the thermostat and blower. The blower has been upgraded from 950cfm of airflow to 1200cfm. I have performed this service flash--you will definitely need a helper or 2 in order to pull the oven out and work on it. There is a service bulletin on your oven describing this exact situation. When you replace the thermostat and blower, re-mount the oven and then restore power, the oven will function and unlock. The link for the thermostat is here:
Thermal Overload Safety Thermostat

The link for the blower is here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-blower-w10176670-ap4369539.html

If you are hesitant about performing the repair yourself, definitely call for service. I hope this helps you!

Used self cleaning process on my oven yesterday and today the oven will not turn on, we keep getting message to unlock the oven door even though it is. What can we do?

The oven gets extremely hot during the self-cleaning mode... the door switch might have got stuck in locked position, or broken in locked position (to be replaced), let's hope it's just stuck...which you'll need to work the mechanical lock-unlock latching back and forth to hopefully unstick....and if that doesn't work just re-run self-cleaning process but this time let the oven cool completely before unlocking the door. Hope this helps.

Hello.

Please apply the solution this way!

To close an oven door when it's in the locked position and the door is open, press and hold the oven door light switch while following these simple steps:
  • Program the oven to self-clean.
  • Wait 20 seconds.
  • Cancel self-clean.
  • Wait 20 seconds.
To self-clean your wall oven, follow these simple steps:
  • Remove the oven racks.
  • Set your oven control to "Clean."
  • Select a cleaning time or choose a cleaning level: light, medium or heavy. For typical cleaning needs, we recommend that you select a cleaning time of three hours or choose the medium setting.
  • Select "Start." (To set a delayed start, see your Use & Care Guide.)

Note: For safety reasons, the oven door will remain locked until the oven cools down. When it is sufficiently cool, the door will automatically unlock.

My oven door is locked. It is not cleaning. I have tried turning off the breaker. help i have a turkey to put in the oven. Is there a sequence of buttons I can push to unlock it?

    Hello,

Here are some solution on how to unlock the door of your oven ans do self cleaning below.

IF you can locate the model number tag (bottom left of door opening) you can look up the manual at www.geappliances.com
The only button on your stove that should make the door lock would be the clean button (self clean model) if that is pressed simply hit the clear/off or cancel key and wait for the door to unlock. IF the self clean option ran for an hour or so, you will have to wait for the oven to cool down before the lock can unlock (safety feature).
hope this helps you out please rate this solution it helps get better results for our customers like you
