Question about Hitachi 43F300 43" Rear Projection Television

Hitachi 43f300 #392-110 ic replacement

I replaced the convergence ic 392-110 with a hitachi updated piece 394-160 and have the same problem. Everything is plugged in correctly and nothing wrong with solder job, resistors do not look burnt. Dont know what else it could be. The screen still looks the same3d looking and the manual adjustment screen all the red lines are bent the top 3 red lines are bent way down to the left and the are off and bent at the ends. The cursor on the manual adjust screen is supposed to be white or red,blue. The cursor should be white but it is spread out alittle you can see green red white until you change it to red or blue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It looks more like an open solder because you were able to align it properly after replacing the STK ICs, if there was an open resistor(s) you would not be able to get it align.
I would suggest to go back and double check the solder joints on the STK ICs as well add some fresh solder to the resistors nearby the stk392-180.

a common problem wich i also have with convergence with blue and red convergence.
the image converge amplifiers are burnet out wich in turn blow out resisters that control individual color convergence.

The fix is that Hitachi is a POS. It's kinda like a FORD product, found on road dead. There are problems all over the internet with Hitachi TV's. I ain't gonna give up on putting them down until they fix my 3 1/2 old TV with most of the problems you people are describing.

I have a hitachi 53fdx01b projection tv. The colors are shifted and droop downward. the cross hairs don't move when I try the convergence adjustment. Will new chips fix the problem?

If trying to adjust the convergence doesn't work, then is the convergence ICs that are defective. I would suggest to inspect all the solder joints on the ICs and resistors for possible cold solder joints. If everything looks good then replace both ICs and also measure resistors that are connected to the convergence ICs.

Have picture that has yellow and blue lines around objects, mostly at the bottom of the picture.

You need to replace the Convergence ICs they are Big Black ICs and will have part number on them
STK392-110 upgrade to 150s better ICs ,But you can order the Convergence Kit that will have everything you need to correct problem.

I have a 53 inch hitachi ultravision #53UDX10B Its out of focus and when you press the magic focus button it trys then pops up with the # 4 in the corner is this a convergence problem or what ?

Yes, you have a convergence failure. Usually requires replacement of 2 X STK ICs and any burnt resistors associated with the function that is faulty.

Look at the user menu and compare with images on our Convergence Gallery. Try to adjust in the convergence adjust menu. Identify the functions that do not work and make note. When you replace the ICs, pay special attention to the low ohm resistors for the non-working function. They will be located near the colored plug associated with the non-working function. If red vertical will not adjust, check resistors near the red plug.

There are many posts and websites that offer "new and improved Convergence IC substitutes. My advice is to use the original part numbers and replace any burnt resistors with original values. Many ICs purchased on the Internet are very poor quality and do not work. Many users get substitute replacement ICs and never get their TVs working again.

If you have other electronics repair experience, this job may be done with some chance of success. If you have no experience, there are many secondary problems that can and usually do appear. Determining how to fix the secondary faults and how to correctly align the TV is difficult without prior convergence repair experience.

Some of the common problems encountered are:
1. Poor solder techniques, resulting in damaged PC boards or poor solder connections.
2. Poor quality or wrong parts installed and recognizing this problem.
3. Resistors open or burnt. Some resistors are weakened by the initial faulty IC. Replacing with a "good" IC and starting the TV causes the weakened resistors to burn up. IC may be ok but there are one or more open resistors that measured ok when ICs were being replaced.
4. Wrong ICs used, causing resistors to burn up.
5. Resistors that measure normal and become faulty when heated by current flow.
6. Recognizing that convergence circuit is repaired correctly and alignment is needed.
7. Major alignment in service menu required because data is corrupted by multiple tries of magic focus or manual adjustment while faulty circuit conditions exist.
8. Major alignment required because user adjusted centering rings or physically changed mechanical focus adjustment, then mis-adjusted convergence settings trying to correct mechanical alignment faults.
9. User has not connected plugs and connectors correctly and caused secondary damage or mis-alignment trying to correct secondary issue.

Physically replacing the ICs may appear simple but recognizing if a fault still exists or if correct repair is required causes many attempts at repair to fail. Keep it simple. Replace with good quality original part numbers, measure suspect resistors and adjust only what is necessary.

There are only 3 things to fix, IC failure, resistor failure and user induced secondary faults. Data processor and memory is bulletproof.

The DP14G convergence repair kit from is the correct kit for your model and the kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions.

While Ginko's solution is correct, it is possible that the problem is simply poor solder connections at the ICs. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the ICs first. That may resolve the problem. Please note that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present even when the set is unplugged.

Your convergence ICs need to be replaced. Please respond to this same post and verify your model number and I will post the correct ICs for your model and post a link where you can get replacements with free instalation instructions.

Sounds like a Convergence IC problem, the convergence ics would need to be replaced. This can be done by yourself or a professional.

After replacing IC's, double check the solder connections for bridging or no solder on pin(s). Check all bias resistors (low ohmage). Make sure you have your VCC voltage, should have a positive/negitive voltage of about 24 v on each IC and +38v.Also, make sure all cables are plugged in and fully seated

Note: All bias resistors are very low ohms eg; 3.3, 1.8, 2.2 make sure correct value, very important.
If can't adjust still CPU digital convergence board (near ic's) shielded may be defective.

Colors all messed up

The fact that you used the term "magic focus" tells me you have a Hitachi projection set. When the colors no longer line up on a Hitachi projection TV, it means that most likely one of the convergence output IC's has shorted out. Sometimes a shorted convergence output IC will burn up a low value resistor too. I have also seen a convergence IC crack loose from the board and burn up 3 low-value resistors. If your set is using the STK392-110 IC's, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and replace both IC's with the newer upgraded STK392-150 IC's. The output IC's should be resoldered / replaced and the circuits checked and realigned by a qualified tech familiar with Hitachi projection sets.
