My sony vaio notebook cant play DVDs now which it used to do earlier. But yes it has no problem with CDs.Also the device manager shows that the DVD RW is working properly..I am confused..Plz help me..Its VGNFS-960P Series notebook.
Could be the following reasons:
1. Damaged DVD discs.
2. The region code issues.
3. Format support.
You can check on this tutorial to fix the issue:

Or you can just download another player program to play your disc such as Leawo Blu-ray Player which can play even protected DVDs and commercial DVDs.
This is due to windows problems. Please try repairing your windows by doing which your windows will restore its system files for DVD driver and hence you will be able to access DVD.
Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/System/Hardware/Device Manager/System Devices/
Then right click on: "Microsoft System Management BIOS Driver" and "Update Driver..."
Then "Yes, this time only" and "Next"
Then "Recommended" and WAIT
If your drivers are actualized it wouldn't find anything.
hope this helps

As the hardware appears to be working ok, I'd suspect the software. Specifically the driver. Try reloading the driver.
