    Hi,
    Many thanks for your answer,
Q: "Are you saying that it takes pressing the power button a number of times before it will start up?"
    Ans: Yes
the only led on is the one at the left extremum, it's look like a (cylinder).. I hope that is clear!
So! if my power switch is deffective! how can i fix it?? have u any doc or adress to guive to me .. so i can be operational and try to repare my laptop!
one other thing that i forgot to mentionned is: the buckup battery (ram cmos) doesn't exist.. that means it's unplugged from the computer and i'm searching to replace it as soon as possible!!
so the question is: can this be the cause of the problem???
any way i'll be gratful if you send to me some references , doc or any adress that can help me to solve this problem!

Are you saying that it takes pressing the power button a number of times before it will start up? If there are no LEDs on (other than the power LED on the external A/C power adaptor) until pressing the power on button finally works then I suspect your power switch is defective. The only way to fix that is disassembly and replacement. Replacing the switch isn?t too hard however unless you have the tools, time and some experience you might want to consider taking it down to the local repair shop. If you have any more questions let us know and please don?t forget to rate this posting.

Not having the backup / CMOS battery installed can cause lots of issues but I doubt it would be causing the symptoms you are describing. Even so I would think that you would want to replace it soon; $5 prevents you having to reset the date time every time you start up not to mention the longer boot time involved.

As far as testing / replacing the power switch goes it is a part of the keyboard. While it doesn?t require a total disassembly it does require a small Phillips head screwdriver, some mechanical ability and experience handling electronic components. Looks like T21 keyboards can be had for about $25 US on Ebay and if nothing goes wrong can be replaced in less than an hour. Before you start I strongly recommend you get your laptop running and backup your data just in case.

    -Remove the primary battery pack.
    -Remove the backup (CMOS) battery.
    -Remove the hard drive.
    -remove Ultrabay device.
    -remove any PC cards installed.
-Flip the laptop upside down. In the center of the laptop there are two screws, one just above the battery release and one just below mini PC card slot panel. Remove both screws.
-Flip the laptop right side up and open up the laptop display.
-You should be able to insert your finger through the battery cavity and push on a tab that is part of the keyboard. That will push the bottom of the keyboard out of the laptop case. Continue to move the keyboard towards the LCD and when at 45 degree angle you should be able to remove it by pulling it gently away from the laptop.
-Remove the ?easy button cover? from the old keyboard and install on new one.
-Install new keyboard using the reverse procedure. Ensure that the tabs near the Esc, PrtSc and PgUp keys go under the laptop frame.
-Once the keyboard is aligned it will still be sticking up towards the bottom a little bit. Insert your fingers in the PC Card slot on the left and the Ultrabay slot on the right. Then use your thumbs to press down firmly on both shift keys. Press the ?Y? key to connect the keyboard to the connector underneath.
Now reposition your fingers in the slots and thumbs on the shift keys again. This time try to slide the keyboard towards you to ensure it is locked firmly into place.
-Replace the two screws, Ultrabay, PC cards, hard drive, backup and primary batteries.

Good luck and let us know if you have another questions.

How do I replace the ram cards in my IBM Thinkpad T21 Type 2648

Underneath the laptop there are removable panels via small screws, usually the largest, is where the RAM lives, anyway find the RAM, and it simply "Clips Out" via clips at the side of each SIMM. Once removed you can simply reverse the Action.

T21 IBM won't start intermittently

you have to check your RAM memory .
Some times this problem occurs becasue of faulty RAM or confliction between 2 RAM .
So check your RAM in other Laptop or try with only 1 RAM 1 by 1 if you have 2 RAM .

Thakns for using fixya.
Please rate thisd solution if it helps.

It sounds like your system board is gone. It will need to be replaced. A used board goes between 150 -300 dollars. For someone to check it will still need to be disassembled.
