Want to add video card to the pci e slot on acer AST690-U-P925A desktop is this possible what is the best card i can run on it want to play top gun hardlock need for speed the run dirt 1, 2, 3, showdown was looking at new ati radeon with 512mb video memory and 5.0 shader are there any 1gb cards what is the best card i can run, will the rasdeon work
1) How much Ram Memory do you have installed? If I have the spec's right, your motherboard's maximum amount of Ram Memory is 2GB.
(PC2-5300 would be best, but the amount is what matters, not the 'speed')
2) What is the Maximum Wattage for your Power Supply?
Takes power for each hardware component in the computer.
Motherboard, Processor, Ram Memory, Harddrive, Optical Drive/s, Graphics Card, etc.
When purchasing a graphics card, this is one of the minimum system requirements you need to know.
Spec's I looked up indicate a 300 Watt power supply.
This is the problem. That, and power supply's Acer uses are low quality.
If you had at least a 400 Watt power supply, you could use this,

Slap that game around, and make it bark.

You could also run this if you had the above Power Supply,

[Note*
No. It does not matter if you are using DDR2 Sdram ram memory, and the graphics card has GDDR5 graphics memory.
A graphics card runs independent of the system resources.

Thnak you for the rating, Most Kind!
To Add: Tom, install the software off of the graphics card's Installation disk F-I-R-S-T! (Drivers and user interface, {Cataylst Control Panel for ATI, Nvidia Control Panel for Nvidia} It will be okay as your computer will not use the software yet. THEN turn the computer off, unplug from power. Computer on a table, computer case open, FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions. Now install the graphics card, and be sure to plug the monitor into the card. Close the computer case, plug back into power. Why? Because when a device (Graphics card in this case), is plugged into the computer, Windows will 'break it's neck', to find suitable drivers. If THE drivers are not there, Windows will choose from it's THOUSANDS of genric drivers, and match one up. This = No. You will get a driver conflict. Windows: "Which ones do I use? These or THESE?" With THE drivers installed before the graphics card is, Windows will find THE matching drivers needed. Regards, joecoolvette

SOURCE: Memory issues acer t180 ud360a, no boot up with all (4) ram slots filled...
i had same problem with mine, i have the acer aspire ast180-ud360a, dont put the same memory next to each other, u have to stagger it, so it looks like
------------> [1gb] [512mb] [1gb] [512mb] <--- correct setup
and not like
------------> [1gb][1gb][512mb][512mb] <--- incorrect setup
SOURCE: I have an acer aspire
Are You sure the graphics card is not defect?
When I installed a graphics card instead of the onboard
circuit, the SIS Mirage was disabeled automatically.
I have installation CD for the graphics, of course.
Also, I thought that disabeling devices could be done
through the control panel, "hardware devices".
SOURCE: Acer AM5100-e5311a - Does it support PCI-Express v2.0?
PCI-E is backwards convertible with any other version. Don't worry about mixing versions up. Instead ensure you select the right size. x 16 is the standard right now. Just pick up any card that is a x16 and you'll be fine.
SOURCE: how to expand max memory capacity on acer e500
You see, forcing the slot to receive more than its max (factory-default) capacity could cause unknown side effect that could leads to damage to either memory, mainboard or both.
But if you're lucky, it just detect 2GB but got somewhat increased performance.
But you have to be a risk-taker because I
really, really am not recommend this.
