Radeon 9600 pro cannot install drivers

The MSI PM8m-V Motherboard has the Via P4M800 and Via VT8237 chipsets.

The website for MSI Does not list any drivers for Windows 7 for your motherboard. But since this is a common Via chipset you should be in luck.

A lot of driver support for VIA chips is built into Microsoft® Windows® 7 (32- and 64-bit).

VIA Hyperion Pro drivers

The VIA Hyperion Pro drivers contain all of the main platform drivers for VIA chipsets. The current release of these drivers is included in Windows 7, so at this time there is no need for a VIA Hyperion Pro package that supports Windows 7. However, as updates occur, a package will be released when needed.

you don't need to reinstall or format c:\ ..all you need uninstall al the drivers and install the correct driver of your VGA add on card.

I have not been able to add any AGP card to my PC.
My PC is a cube PC so I have been trying to install a "low end" AGP video card without a separate power connector. My only really requires are DirectX 9.x support and a minimum of 128MB (and no power connector)

The card I am currently trying to install is a Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9600Pro with 256MB.

I have also tried a ATI Radeon 9550 with 256MB and a Nvidia card

I have done all of the usual things, such as disabling onboard graphics, removing old video drivers, verified latest chipset drivers are installed, I reviewed the graphic adapter and don't see any conflicts etc.

I wonder if any of the cards I am trying to install will work with my AGP slot.
The manual for this Gigabyte card states "AGP 3.0 Slot or greater is required"
Unfortunately, this requirement wasn't on the Gigabyte or NewEgg web sites or the back of the box. Only in the install manual.

My Motherboard manual states "AGP 1.5v Card is required".

I got great AGP information from www.playtool.com. I used some of the tools suggested there such as Sandra Lite and other tools to try to determine what version my AGP Slot is. These tools don't seem to clearly state what

This is a awesome PC and I really would like to extend the life of it my adding any AGP card that supports DirectX 9.x

Try installing new graphics drivers or reinstalling your previous drivers if you have recently updated your drivers.

AGP is a bit old for win7, i'd drop it. that said, if the ati card is an addin perhaps your onboard (via) chip is causing the problem. turn it off in your bios so that the install never even detects it and use drivers from ati.

Try the following : Go into the setup routine using the onboard video. Go to the  Intergrated Peripherals.
Find the onboard video and change it to disable. Save changes.
Change monitor to the AGP card.

Background info, a Powercooler 9600 PRO EZ was most probably manufactured by C.P.Technology in Taiwan. I am sorry to say that quality wise, this company is rather low and to my understanding, a lot of their products has to be returned/replaced even new. On the other hand, the old Nvidia MX4000 might have been manufactured by Palit, also in Taiwan but has a better quality control as of the time of production. The MX4000 though only uses 128Mb of memory but runs them at 275/400 (DDR) MHz clock speed compared to the 9600 PRO 200 (400) MHz. The slow memory onto the PowerColor RADEON 9600 PRO EZ 256MB had a really bad effect on its performance.

To your concern, the ECS 845GV-M3 (V1.0) uses AGP Express but should not cause a problem to either the 256 or 128. since it is working with the 128, then it would be safe to say that the 256 is defective. if the 256 will test OK in another motherboard, then it would be a compatibility issue, try setting the CMOS/BIOS to default and see if it will work.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Your install will run better if you remove previous software versions for the Radeon 9600. If your attempt to remove old software fails. ownload & run ATI's cat-uninstaller.exe found here.:

You will have to re-install the drivers a few times before the control panel realises there is an ATI plugged in. Once done, Direct-X will respond to the ATI drivers, and therefore work. Sorted! Good luck!
