Programs hang while writing DVDs or CDs. May hang anywhere between 2% complete or 99% complete. The only way to free it is to turn the drive off unplug the USB cable and turn it back on. Then cancel the program that I was using. I throw away way too many DVDs and CDs. Happens on various software programs. PC operating System is XP Home edition.

Re: U30274 Burner hangs while writing DVDs
If it were the item you were trying to burn that causes the hanging, in other words a corrupt file, then that maybe the fault, but if it hangs with any other file your trying to burn, either your memory is being used up burning the files or you have a faulty burner, assuming you have tried different makes of dvd disks.
Unless you have a dual processor, it's not wise using the pc for anything else at the same time.

You better start simulation before writing the dvd's in the writing softwares... and hanging is not the problem by means of playing dvd's... try to play the same dvd's in some other system and then only you will come to a conclusion... Thanks...
If your DVD/CD drive was not doing this before, know that it is getting spoiled, especially on it's lens. Or the CDs and DVDs which don't play might be burnt on a higher speed which is not supported by drive. Try to use CDs and DVDs burnt at the speed recommended by the drive's manual, usually a maximum of x24 for CDs and x16 for DVDs.
I recommend that you uninstall sliverlight first. and reinstall IE7.
MS security updates usually doesn't cause any problem, but the other files may.
if you remember or go to control panel>>add and remove program. and click on show updates. select the updates that is most recent and deleted them.
you can always reinstall them from MS web site.
This is a common issue with NEC DVD burners, assuming that your NEC DVD burner cannot read and write DVDs anymore. I had a similar issue with my NEC DVD burner, which couldn't read and write CDs, but DVDs successfully. This is usually due to wear and tear of constant usage of the drive itself and sometimes mechanisms inside the DVD burner cease to work. While Windows Troubleshooting, uninstalling and re-installing the drive are suggestable, I am afraid the only option is a complete DVD burner replacement.
