I have a Lenova G570 laptop
Description
The USB cable must connect from the device directly to the MX310.
Solution
Connect the USB cable to the Printer
If the computer does not detect the printer, ensure the USB cable connects directly to the printer. If the printer is connected to the computer via a USB splitter, disconnect the cable from the splitter and connect it directly to computer.
Note: The USB connector will only fit in one-direction into the type-B receptacle on the printer. Please ensure the connector is oriented properly before inserting it into the printer.
Hello, you could opt for the USB connection. Plug one end of the cable into the USB port on your computer. After, plug in the power cable and turn on the printer.

Hi, I have windows vista (home/ non64) and have tried to connect the mx310. When I install drivers from the companies website, and use the disc that came with the printer no connection happens. I've tried other printer cords (usb) and dif usb ports just in case. The fax connection is recognized however. Not sure why at the end of installation it does not find the printer connection, does anyone know the solution to this?

Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect
the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do
both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer
to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

The MX310 is not a wireless printer. I own it and have never seen that feature anywhere in the specs either. Try the MX860 (my roommate owns it and it's VERY nice).
SOURCE: Is there a way I can print wireless from my laptop
Yes.
The desktop and laptop both need to be attached to the same network.
On your desktop:
Go to Control Panel, Printers and Faxes
Right click on your printer, and click on "Sharing"
Share the printer on your network
On your laptop:
Go to Control Panel, Printers and Faxes
"Add Printer"
Choose a "Network attached Printer"
Browse for the printer, and add in.

The Canon MX310 printer can be connected to your laptop using a USB cable. To connect your printer, you must first connect the USB cable from your laptop to the back of your Canon MX310 printer. Then, turn on your Canon MX310 by pressing its power button and wait for it to boot up. Once it's ready, open up the menu on your laptop and select "Printing Preferences." Select "Printer" and choose "Add Printer." Search for your Canon MX310 model and select "Drivers & Utilities." Install any updates that are available and then restart your computer. Once it's restarted, open a document or image file that you want to print and click on the icon that says "File" in your menu bar (it looks like a little page with an arrow pointing down). Scroll down until you see an option called "Print" and click on it Connect Printer With Laptop Without Cable. Now select "Canon MX-310 Series (USB)" from the list of printers on the left side of this screen and press print!
